Tennessee is paying their 5 star QB 8 million. The kid is 6-6 and has a rocket for an arm.

Hope it works out. That is a lot of dough for an 18 yo. I wonder what their minimum expected outcome is.

Look him up. Dresses kind of funny, but thats neither here nor there.

He was standing on the sideline wearing shades in the last game I saw. Must be nice getting paid over a million bucks to ride the bench.

most of the guys being paid that money, the starters, have their teams in or around the Top 10. Just statistically, it's more probable than not they'll be that vicinity by the time this guy rises to starter. Arch Manning, if I were betting Vegas Odds, will lead a top 10 team in the next couple years, just statistically. Could certainly swing and miss, which would be considered a bad investment. Kinda like Bariatric Seating. We're actively incentivizing obesity within Memorial Stadium. Take your pick on what you'd rather see. Elite QB costs a helluva lot less that Fat Seats.

Also consider that 5* QB's don't Occasionally make the NFL, they USUALLY make the NFL, and Way higher odds statistically of being a First Rounder.... which makes what UT is payin the kid currently a drop in the bucket.

Say we hypothetically find and put an elite QB on our payroll next year for Millions cumulatively... if that talent also hypothetically made us competitive in our league faster, would it have been a good investment? If it lands us in the Top 10 and a BCS-quality Bowl, does that make it worth it? There aren't any assurances, but there are really good statistics for this.

Got trucked by Mizzou last week, but probably not his fault. He will HAVE to start next year, regardless of the competition. There’s no other way.

This isn't NIL, its the out of control paying of players. 8 million... in a few years that'll be chicken feed, you watch.
NIL is the freedom for the player to profit off his name/image/likeness. That was passed up as the schools figured out the NCAA is either disinterested or toothless.

you sound like a guy who's been getting paid the same for years with no hope of upward movement

this is America

Well, I am a few years away from a retirement I'll never experience due to a terminal illness that keeps me down. I am just looking for a little more time and quality of life.
Sorry if I don't revolutionize the business sector.

They arent paying him 8 million. He has a valuation of that. Social media plays a large part in valuations. Followers and what not. Tennessee is paying him 0. He likely isnt making 8 mill per year off of social either. We have almost 0 way of knowing their actual deals. The IRS likely does though.

At what point does the NCAA implement some type of NIL "Salary Cap"... I have ZERO idea how that looks but at some point the spending has to be railed in like the NFL or this is gonna continue the path of the Power 5 to the new B1G Vs SEC mega conferences and eventually widling it down to the top 10 -15 schools with enough money to compete and eveyone else will be holding their weiners wondering what happened

I don't think we will have to be, but we should be.
without embracing NIL, you're gonna have to be.
Fortunately, times may be a'changin soon.

this is what's basically already happened, in a few short years. We can certainly do a LOT better as a program there, we're roughly toward the top of the middle third of Power Uni's when it comes to 'money available' and spending nowhere near those similarly positioned, but will still be at a huge disadvantage to what'll end up being a mostly perennial Top 10.

the power of a Willing Collective far exceeds that of a Privileged Few.

Most of UT's starting lineup's market value exceeds our highest-valued players.

Going to assume that link shows something to the effect of paying players gets you better players and more wins....still hate NIL and I think it is terrible for CFB and most kids getting that kind of cash. Now if it could be put in a trust of some sort for later, maybe a 401(ish)...but giving teenagers everything they want and tons of money to boot is a terrible idea....but you do you. I'm not going to complain if we buy a few studs and turn this around, but I will tell anyone who donates to it they're an idiot.

We should listen to his 2020-2022 press conferences and pick apart everything he said.

*Not necessarily directed to you Kong
he was only 36 when he was hired and he was the OC, too

fired his DC after the '20 season and '21 season

Agree with you 1000%. Mostly. Needs to be legislated and capped, or we're basically permanently screwed. We've been around on this, but the point is that while the idea of being forced to pay them to play comparative talent on the field is truly idiotic, it's also necessary if we wanna be consistently competitive with ranked teams. Certainly wouldn't discourage the Proletariat from donating, if the goal is improving the level of talent on the field. It MIGHT help us win. 'might'.

It can’t be a guaranteed amount. No way. But it’s a great way to control the kid on campus. Any weed, you’re done pal. DUI? Adios. Hit an ex-girlfriend? Not backing you, bro. All F’s on the report card….We can get you help.

On3 has him @ $1.1M, for whatever that's worth. Less than DR or Arch Manning, but on par with a bunch of the studs with their teams in the Top 10.

Can you even begin to imagine the problems that coaches are going to have in pee wee or high school football with parents who think their kid is the next million dollar whatever.... and the coach disagrees??

This is just going to be hilarious to watch unfold. We thought parents were bad before...you're gonna see a lot more fist fights in the stands going forward because of NIL

No offense at all to Pascal and I will definitely send up some prayers for you, but I haven't laughed that hard at a post on the board in a long time.

Kong was definitely saying he was sorry and that was the perfect meme for it.
I started it. It just hit close but this is a football message board. Personal problems maybe shouldn't be relevant. As King said, you don't know what the nameless, faceless poster has to battle.

We need Blake Lawrence to educate our fans base on NIL. So many misconceptions on NIL with our fan base.

First off the deal is up to $8mm over 3 years. And again it’s UP TO. Secondly this dude hasn’t received many snaps this year but he has 137k followers and 3.6M likes on TikTok alone. And that’s just his TikTok. He’s got instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.

Influencers make some really big money. Influencers with way less talent then him make more money then this.

We need to step up our social media game. Don’t want to give our kids a dime of your own money? Fine. But how about follow them on social media? How about support and like their content. I promise we won’t have to shell out the cash when the follows add up and the likes add up.

Think following a kid on social media is cringe? Think it’s less cringe then following a sophomore in high school recruiting on rivals or 247. We once had the record for most fans on a message board at one time on rivals for a recruit’s announcement.

You’re awfully preachy. Tone it down a bit.
