New NU Holiday - Foley Contract Expiration Day

After seeing what he did here and South Carolina you think Satterfield could easily get another OC job? I'm not sure I agree with that. Contrary to public opinion he wasn't good at South Carolina and they were glad we took him. He was worse at Nebraska and got replaced before years end. I'm not so sure that resume will have suitors calling for him to coordinate offenses for them. Jmo tho...

Holla
Which is why I believe Satterfield will be on Rhule’s staff indefinitely.

I guess the disagreement is your statement that Rhule won’t ditch his Buddy that isn’t cutting it. I think he’s already done that and will do it again. I don’t care if he is around in another role or not.
Ok, who did he ditch? Satt is still employed and junior left to join daddy, who is another Rhule buddy. You think he fired junior?

Haven't had time to read much of this thread so I might be repeating previous thoughts. I don't think Rhule is a big firing guy - he'll help Foley get another job and then publicly announce we wish Foley well, thank him for his time here, and get another dude in there. I'm good with how Rhule treats people.
It won't be easy for Foley to get another job after this year. At least not in a major program.

Rhule took his position away, so he left. It’s OK to treat people with respect. We upgraded both positions, why does it matter to you that they are “ditched”? They were removed from their positions and replaced with someone, hopefully, better. That’s all I care about, I don’t need some pound of flesh to feel like we upgraded properly.

He was let go and he ended up on his Dads staff : Rhule has a way of handling things differently than most . He helps people find other employment. Why is this a problem for you . I think it’s a great quality in a person.

It's still a business. If I don't produce at my $27 an hour job my ass still gets fired. You women think to emotionally.

That’s because you work a shitty hourly job. These guys obviously hold a lot more value with their multi-year contracts, and have a lot more options .

If you don’t think replacing the coordinator counts because it wasn’t done how you want, that is being an emotional woman.

But good luck with that job.

This is New Year's Eve. My gut says no announcement until the new year...
Probably but he has to know his situation . Because he wouldn’t have a job and we have visiting portal players coming in he would have to know whether to show up for work on Thursday the 2nd( assuming they would take the 1st off ) and there are a couple coaches in this situation.

I don't see why that's our obligation. Don't think any other big time program handles business that way either.

On the buddy hires . . . . B. Callahan would've been back in the NFL by now, but could've stayed on at NU a couple more years had he ditched Cosgrove midseason. The more time passes, the more I think Callahan's firing took some thought. Overall, the 2007 season was trash, but they blew the doors off KState (Josh Freeman) at home, which was glorious, and played really well against Texas in Austin at the end of the season.
No.

It’s not your obligation it is Rhule. Stop acting like you matter in these decisions
This is a message board dude. Where people throw out their opinions. That's the only thing I've ever done. Not sure why you're taking it so seriously.

Well it's a tad bit different. He was reassigned to an advisory role and then took a job at Texas tech. He wasn't fired and we may never know if he would have had a contract passed the one he had

So assume we get rid of Foley. Who by name do you think would be an excellent Special Teams replacement coach? Anyone that really stands out? (And no, not just Busch.)

I also think we need to look to someone different for ST coach. I’m concerned, however, that it may be more than Foley. Here’s part of his resume from Huskers.com

BAYLOR: In his lone season at Baylor in 2019, the Bears ranked 13th nationally in special teams. Baylor was second nationally with five blocked kicks and ranked in the top 40 in the country in punt and ickoff return defense.

TEMPLE: In addition to ranking in the top five nationally in blocked kicks four times, Foley’s Temple teams ranked in the top 25 nationally in punt return defense in three of his six seasons, including fifth in 2014. In Foley’s final season at Temple in 2018, the Owls ranked in the top 25 nationally in punt returns and kickoff return defense, in addition to a No. 5 ranking in blocked kicks. The Owls also scored six touchdowns on special teams in 2018 with two punt return touchdowns, two fake kicks for scores, one punt block for a touchdown and one kickoff return for a score.

Individually, Temple specialists thrived under Foley. Isaiah Wright became the first player in school history to return both a punt and kickoff for touchdowns in consecutive seasons en route to first-team All-America honors in 2018, when he was named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year. In 2015, Jahad Thomas tied a Temple record with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and Austin Jones set the school record for field goals made (23) and points by a kicker (113).

I think we would all love those results. What happened? I doubt he forgot how to coach. I think there’s something behind the curtain that has gone on that may still hang with us and a new ST coach. This resume and our results don’t make sense together.

Bios only highlight the positive. I'm sure his bio this year would have highlights too. The unit as a whole was completely lost at times and if someone didn't know our team they would probably think we quit on our coaches. Which I don't think we did.

I agree on the highlights. That said, I don’t think he has anywhere close to those highlights in his time at Nebraska. Maybe he lost all passion-but that doesn’t make sense. I hope I’m wrong but I think there’s more to it.

He wasn’t the special teams cord for Baylor in 2019. That was Mike Siravo. Ed was an analyst.

Also temple averaged 30k or less in attendance during his time at Temple. Playing in front of 90k is a lot different than playing infront of 30k, especially in the kicking game. Connor Culp was B1G kicker of the year in 2020 when no fans where in the stands but absolutely sucked in 2021 with packed houses. 2015 temple had its best year in attendance at 44k, still nothing compared to Lincoln.

Look at him. He's a fat old slob. Probably has diabetes and on blood pressure, cholesterol, and mental health medications. I doubt his energy, drive and enthusiasm are anywhere near what they were before.

I had to replace my $28 dollar an hour worker. But the guy was amazing at one of the machines. I offered him a demotion at an overnflated wage of $24 but found value in him. Those situations almost never work out, But I have had them worked out well before. I gave him the opportunity and he proved me right the first day when the new operations manager came in. Dumb ass was talking smack before I even showed up. Then he was let go pronto. Your situation does not transfer to everybody's. He told me he got $29 an hour from another company and was moving on so I told him that sounds like it was best for everybody. I found out about two weeks later that he was lying to me and that he took a job up the street for twenty three dollars an hour and he was trying to recruit one of my other workers that he was friendly with. Good luck to that company. Different strokes for different folks and firing everybody who doesn't perform in one skillset is not a hundred percent the way to go. Personally I don't want Foley anywhere near special teams but what do I know.
