Outside of some cataclysmic series of events, I'm hearing that this is basically a done deal. I'll wait 'till the ink is dry though. Hey, we are still Nebraska basketball and unluckier things have happened to us the past 100 years.
This is why I think Tim Miles will ultimately get it done. Both of our two previous head coaches had some positive momentum early on, hit the proverbial wall, and folded like a $4 Walmart lawn chair. Miles has hit said wall and appears to be able to break through. The way our team was set-up, next year was supposed to be the big year. The year where we finally won an NCAA Tournament game, quite possibly games. This year, our program's momentum grinded to a halt. We tanked....big time. We had team turmoil, lost Petteway, Pitchford, and Harriman. Collier and Doc folded, Miles hasn't. Instead, Miles secures an excellent recruiting class, a top-notch transfer, and is about to land a very sought after assistant coach.
While next year might not be 'the year', our future still looks bright. While we still have to ultimately prove it on wood, on paper it looks like we have weathered the storm. Miles and his staff didn't let the wall that stopped a lot of their momentum be an ending factor. I'm very bullish and buying stock.
Let me also add that I LOVE the fact that Nebraska basketball is gaining more fans. That said, if you're a big football fan looking to casually follow our basketball program, let's tone down the critiques and rhetoric down a half of notch, eh? Building a consistent winner here is extremely difficult and it's not possible to do it in the course of a few short years. It's like what Red says about geology, it takes pressure and time. Our school just started taking basketball seriously a couple of minutes ago. When it's time to panic, the diehard Nebraska basketball fans will let you know. We've seen failure enough to know. Until then, enjoy the ride and try not to talk about motion offenses.
