Rhule will find a place for him.. Carter Nelson isn’t he our #1 target at TE ?
I hear that there may be a little bit of a dead period in commits as the staff tries to figure out where they stand with the top 100 guys who are interested in us. For example the staff wants a RB in this class. But they would prefer Frazier over anyone else.

He didn't play DE until the Chiefs. He played DT at DONU.
I was kind of hoping that this staff had dropped the recipe of previous staffs that just offered all the highest rated kids they could regardless of their fit. This statement would suggest otherwise.
A three star that fits your scheme and culture is better than a four star that doesn’t.

Trying to figure out what you have and who wants to be here among the top 100 doesn’t mean they won’t fit the scheme and culture.
Your statement is 180 degrees the other way. Don’t go after the talented guys, go after the less talented guys that want to be here. But what if there are more talented guys who also want to be here? That’s what the coaches are trying to find out.
A four star player who fits your scheme and culture is better than a three star player who fits your scheme and culture. Generally speaking of course.

So why is Illinois the only B10 west team that Nebraska has a winning record against at 6-4 since coming into the B10? That’s three coaching regimes and this was happening in the B12 north before Nebraska left.
Nebraska always has better recruiting classes by wide margins. Is the coaching in the B10 west just that much better? Why did Frost perform so well with the talent differential at UCF and Oregon but couldn’t do it at NU?
I honestly haven’t followed recruiting that much this year. But in the past Nebraska always seemed to have a ton of offers for kids highly rated compared to other schools. It seemed like the plan was always offer every highly rated kid just to see who you can rake in. The statement suggests this might still be going on.
I just took a look at Nebraska offers for Running Backs compared to Iowa and Wisconsin (two other run dominated schools in their division) on 247.
Nebraska: 25 offers, 11 in top250
Iowa: 14 offers, 1 in top250
Wisconsin: 10 offers, 5 top250
I mean, you can’t think it’s coincidence that Nebraska does so little with so much compared to their competition (even teams that do a poor job developing).
At the same time, you can’t think Just because Frost sucked doing it this way Rhule will suck as well.
You MAY be right, but judging Rhule the same way you judged Frost isn’t fair at this point, nor is it logical. Frost threw out tons of offers with not nearly as much effort. It’s no wonder guys left right after arriving… the relationships weren’t cultivated.
This staff has been above and beyond as far as recruiting, developing relationships, and the like. How do I know about the relationship stuff? Just look at Twitter and see what people are saying.
Again, you may be right, but way too soon to assume it’s more of the same.
And has had some lower than typical additions to the team early on which made me think this staff wasn’t recruiting that way, but it looks like there still might be some of that going on based on the offers.

It’s not just Frost. It was Riley, Bo, maybe even Callahan, a little.
There is some truth behind Nebraska winning the off-season every year. It makes me wonder if the admin pressures coaches to have high rated recruiting classes to keep fan excitement or the illusion of being at the top of the cfb pecking order.
But, the results just aren’t aligned with recruiting far longer than Frost.
All of those coaches had their warts that prevented success. Rhule has his warts as well, no doubt…
Callahan focused solely on recruiting… The defensive coaches were terrible. Riley had optional weightlifting. That’s not gonna do anybody favors. Pelini was better than those two, and his record showed it. What will Rhule look like? We will find out. But I’d rather have the big-name players and have them stay rather than transfer out as happened so much of the time with, everybody from Pelini on. With the transfer portal, maybe we won’t get big time players to stick around if they’re not starting right away, I get that… But I still think you need to build a culture where a good players come and duke it out. We haven’t seen that since Pelini, and I’m hoping we see it under Rhule.
Again, you may be right. But let’s see what he does with the players he gets. You may be surprised. Then again, I may be surprised as well, not in a good way. We’ll see.
Lazy recruiting IMO. I think we took some guys who might have been 4 stars on paper but other programs backed off due to various reasons and NU took flyers on them to fill the class. Recruiting services don't always rank kids on the intangibles such as character or academics. Or they project if a kid is going to struggle gain weight.

You hit on it. Culture. The culture Pelini set up was toxic for much of his time, but it included elements of toughness and drive. Add to that an AD that brought new meaning to worthless. What has NU had since?
Riley. Hip hip hooray and cupcakes with sprinkles for everyone. Weak culture, weak athletes. An AD who couldn't pass up a whiskey if his life depended on it.
Frost. Smoke, mirrors, hookers and blow. Toxic without the toughness of Pelini. Same AD for his first few years. Glug glub.
Rhule. Who knows, but he at least seems to take the concept of effective culture seriously. The AD seems to have his shite together and knows when to cut bait.
It amuses me to read posters (trolls mostly) who have written off Rhule before he's coached his first game and who hate Trev because they still have a boner over what he did at UNO.

I guess you miss 100% of shots you don’t take, but if all of those offers are committable, and clearly some of them have been passed on by power teams who have hard commits much lower, then it looks like much of the same. And… if they aren’t committable, why offer?
What am I whining about? I’d like to see Nebraska be more relevant in the National picture but in the end I don’t care if Nebraska sucks.
