Going to be getting the boy an xbox 1 for Christmas. Do I do the 500 gb or 1 tb system? We are letting him upgrade because the old 360 with additional hard drive can barely load the new games unless you dump all old game memory. Is 500gb enough? I have no problem with the extra bucks, but 500 seems like a bunch.
If it helps he likes to play online with his buddies, not sure that matters memory-wise.

Get the 500gb XB1 and a 1TB or higher external hard drive (make sure it's a 7200rpm external, games will load faster). That's what I have and it's great.

Regarding playing online, that has nothing to do with the XB1 hardware. Your internet connection will be what matters there. I would also advise getting one w/out the kinect. The support for it is all but non-existent. It's fine for voice commands when in the menu and opening apps by voice command, but that can be done with the controller as well. Kinect just isn't worth the money.

Here's the link to the external hard drive I use. I've been using it since day one and it's been flawless...

Go with the 1TB edition. There are going to be a ton of different bundles available starting Friday that will offer the 1TB option along with one or two games for $299, which is the regular price for the 500GB version. The 1TB doesn't have anything to do with gaming online, but it does have to do with how many games he'll be able to keep on his hard drive at any one time. With the fact that the Xbox One is offering backwards compatibility for a ton of Xbox 360 games, and then the lineup getting better for Xbox One exclusives, he'll be happy he has twice the GBs.

500GBs aren't really that much in this day and age. Games like Grand Theft Auto 5 take up 60GB even if you have the disc. Most games are going to take up that much space as digital downloads. He'll end up having to delete games and saves if he wants to get new games.

You could do that too, but there really isn't a reason to do it, since you're getting it brand new and there are bundles out for the 1TB for the Holiday season.

I got myself the 1tb limited edition halo 5 Xbox. Really slick and makes a cool noise when you turn it off and on. I agree 500gb and you can add on a 2tb hard drive if you so desire.

Thanks guys. 1 game can use 60 gb? Holy balls

the best is MAME for the pc! old fogies get to relive their arcade days and the young ones get an education in the wonders of early gaming.

I almost got a ms. Pac man/galaga machine for the house. Wife kind of threw that plan, but when I decide on a pinball machine she won't have much say.
