Nebrasketball vs. Sacramento State

It was obvious that in the first half Miles was playing every bizarre combination under the sun to see what worked and what didn't. And a lot didn't, but you can throw out the 1st half as nothing but a series of experiments designed to throw the young kids into the fire. Then in the second half he played the lineup that will see the majority of time, at least in the 1st third of the season, and NU coasted. Sacramento St. actually is a decent team, with tons of experience, although not a lot of athleticism. You could see that in how crisply they ran their sets, while on the other side you could practically see the wheels working in Jordy, Horne's, Roby's and Taylor's mind as to "where do I go now?" As a result, when we had 2 or more newcomers on the court at the same time the offense looked stuck in quicksand.

How many wins is it going to take for an NIT birth this year? 17, 18? Just wondering because I think the NIT is a reasonable mark to reach for this year.

With our schedule this year 17-18 wins should get us in the NIT. Nowadays you pretty much have to be a bubble team to get a NIT invite. The first half was rough last night but had we completed half of the layups we missed the game would not have been close at half. First game jitters for almost all of the newcomers.....doubt that will be the case in a couple of weeks when they get their feet wet. Miles said a good majority of our points vs Iowa St came from the bench so I don't think they will be a black hole like they were last night. Practice game Tuesday then we will face a tough La Tech team. That will be a good test for this team.

NIT might be tough this year. Too many youngsters I'm afraid. IF White had stayed I think it would have been a foregone conclusion, but when you have to play that many new pieces I'm afraid this is going to be a tough year. I really like the future with the newcomers, but I think they'll be a year away. Our sophomore class's senior year should be really good if they all stick around.
