Based your "history" statement we should have never lost more than 9 games in football. I mean look at the history!

It doesn't mean squat. It's a giant excuse fans use to justify what we have seen forever. Including every year Fred has been here except last year to a point and this year so far. Only winning conference games at home is also not acceptable. If you want to get a 5 seed, you have to win road games that matter. So far, we have not. If we get in as usually on the last bubble teams and lose we have not progressed whatsoever.

Go fix it. Grow a pair, open the checkbook as wide as it gets and get a coach who will attract top level talent. If Fred gets us a 5 seed and wins a game, then I would give him another year. If not, he has had plenty of time.

Im not making excuses just explaining that IMO taking a losing program and turning it into a proven winner takes time. 3 years isn't enough.

One thing at nebraska that has been proven time and time again is that jumping from coaching staff to coaching staff has not been the answer in Football or Basketball.

we were 14 months removed from our deepest conf tourney run, an NCAA tourney bid and Miles winning B1G Coach of the Year.

either way, I'm obviously pleased with Hoiberg's turnaround despite loudly wanting him fired after year 3, and excited to watch this team battle all winter long.

we have the inside track to another bid this year thanks to the idiotic way college hoops scheduling works (strength of conference is set in stone by Christmas) and our non-con which didn't include any crippling losses for the first time in a very long time.

hold serve at home, steal a couple on the road, win a game in the B1G tourney and we'll be a 7 seed.

I think anytime your are historically in the bottom half of your conference... You are the doormat.

Over 13 seasons, Nebraska's cumulative Big Ten record stands at 86 wins and 160 losses. That is doormat worthy.

Some of Fred’s early struggles were due to the roster mess that Miles’ feud with our AD caused. It completely destroyed his last class at a time we were trying to build a roster via high schoolers and a couple of transfers. At that time transfers had to sit out a year.

Fred started in a deep hole. The new transfer rules are helping the roster situation but if we want to win tourney games, we need to fund NIL way better.

Fred also changed assistant coaches that got away from recruiting the damn good players that were only in it for
Themselves and not as a team

Tim was 116 - 114 in 7 seasons. Not exactly amazing. I wasn't on board with dumping him either.

Fred was 62-83 through his first 4 seasons, but ended with a visit to the dance and a Big 10 co-coach of the year last year. But many of you would have neutered him after year 3 and once again started anew with expectations that somehow a miracle worker was going to step into the position.

No one is arguing that it was a rough start to Fred's tenure. What I'm arguing is that cutting bait after 3 seasons coaching at the doormat of the Big 10 conference is not only irresponsible but moronic. If we were playing in the MAC or some other lower level conference maybe... But not in the BIG 10.

Fred had 40 wins during his first for seasons I’m not sure how you are crediting him with 62.

This might be one of the dumbest takes I’ve seen on here and that’s saying something, because I’ve seen some really dumb takes on this board. To compare one of the top 10 winningest football programs to one of the worst basketball programs in history is just moronic. It is far easier to run a historically winning program into the ground, than it is to lift a historically losing program from the ashes. Even more so for a school in a sparsely populated state, we are not a California, Texas, or Florida school that can walk out our front door and start tripping all over 5* talent.

What are your opinions on Ryan Day? Before the upset win over Oregon in the quarterfinals, he hasn’t shown anything in 6 or so years in the postseason. Do you think he should be fired?

Good point, they were favored, so all they did was what was expected. My question remains then, would iamalways4nu be in favor of firing Day since he really hasn’t won anything?

I get that the situations aren’t the same as Day has won lots, but nothing that REALLY matters…

I also think Fred's leash is longer than perhaps it's ever been in his entire career at this point in time, which is saying something

would be nice to solidify ourselves as a perennial top 60 NET team because there's a lot of fun stuff that comes with it that we've never really experienced as NU hoops fans

I respect that, but I don’t see how anyone could call for his head if he achieves a 5 seed in the tournament but loses. It’s not accepting mediocrity either, it’s recognizing improvement incrementally. As long as Fred improves the product, let him keep it up.

I don't think he is great. Good coach with an elite roster.

That said, I appreciate there are those with much much higher expectations for that program than I.

Maybe I’m too safe but I don’t want to shoot for the stars and have the shuttle blow up before it leaves the atmosphere.

If he doesn't win a tournament game this year, I would like him replaced. Just like I did last year. He has had 6 years right? Thats plenty of time. Plenty pf better coaches out there. Open the check book and go find one.

Strange argument if people want him gone now. Past is over. We seem to be consistently improving. And the last 2 years have been fun to watch. Can't say I ever wanted to actually plan a night of watching basketball under Miles or Doc.
