In firing Eichorst, Bounds said we want to be competitive across the board. Nebraska's culture really hasn't been to be competitive across all sports. Our focus as an athletic department and as a state has historically been football -- winning football. I suppose I should throw Volleyball in because we have been very competitive in that sport for twenty years. But, in reality, we have always been a football program and a football state and that culture goes back to the earliest days of the state and its embrace of football. Even though we have made major capital investments in every one of our sports venues making them the best or among the best in the country, I think everyone will be happy if we just reestablish the winning culture and national relevance of our football program. Ya, it would be great to be competitive in basketball, but give me a great football team and I and everyone else in the state will be ecstatic.
