There's been a lot of talk of Elkhorn South potentially using the new rule of helmet communications in the dugout to cheat in the Nebraska State Baseball tournament. The rule allows the coach in the dugout to have a walkie-talkie and call the pitch with the catcher having a microphone in his helmet behind home plate.

It sounds like there was someone at the Elkhorn South versus Prep game that had a radio device on the same channel as the walkie-talkie listening to the called pitch, then whistling to give the batter the correct pitch. One whistle for fastball, two whistles for a breaking ball, and 3 whistles for something different. It was rainy and cloudy during the game and this individual was sitting behind home plate with sunglasses and a hat covering his face, would lean forward almost to the ground to listen to the radio in his lap or at his feet, then sit back up and whistle the call. Apparently Prep caught this individual doing it and since the game, Prep and Millard West fanbases and parents have gone ballistic.

Bellevue West had suspected that there was cheating going on in their game against Elkhorn South and a couple fans even let the Bell West coaching staff know after the game. Midway through the Elkhorn South game, Bell West's radio communication went down because they were getting interference which hasn't happened all season. They weren't sure how they could have cheated though and when Prep caught this individual doing it, they were aware of the schematics of how the cheating was possible. Hmm

Sounds like various people have reported the cheating to the NSAA and it's making its rounds. I'm guessing they'll want to collect any video/audio taken during the games and hopefully do a full investigation.

Will be interesting to see what comes out of this.
