Nebraska Hockey

I know this is a potentially hot bed issue. Traitor Trev was very protective of UNO Hockey.

Now that he is long gone, can we discuss a Varsity Nebraska Hockey team? If we want conform to the B1G, this is a great way to do so.

UNO is incredible, and I go to their games... But, NU is really missing out if they want to join the fold.

Hockey is so cool and maybe we can recruit some kids who can play enjoy half the year being warm vs other locations being straight cold?

Yes, hockey would be excellent and would go well here at Nebraska. We would take serious lumps early in the big ten. Not sure if we would begin as a full big ten member team.

Never understood the dislike for Hockey by many Nebraskans. Hockey is fast, physical and a very hard game to play I know because I played team hockey for a few years until injury forced me to quit. I think eventually Nebraska will add a team and compete in the BIG, and with the way young men are being paid to play you're not going to take lumps for long.

You don't need a team full of stars to be competitive, gone are the days of taking years of putting a competitive team together. What it takes is desire by the Nebraska fans and an AD who will listen, and you can move forward. With this being said most Nebraska sports fans just don't understand the game and this is why Hockey for the moment is a non-issue at Nebraska at least for now.

It's funny but you have colleges at states that surround Nebraska and they play the game and at a high level, but dear old Nebraska just doesn't understand a grand game that is a blast to play and great to watch live. Nebraska is behind when it comes to winter sports, I guess if the sport requires you to skate rather than run it just makes no sense to many Nebraska fans. There are sports outside of football at least for some of us.

there has been a Husker hockey club team that plays at the D2 level. They've been allowed to use all of the Husker trade marked and licenses on their unis and team bus. One of my sons played for them about 15 years ago. It was a lot of fun going to his games in Fremont. I have no idea what the status of the team is now or where they play.

EDIT: Looks like they play at the D3 level now. They have games with Drake at the MidAmerican Energy center tonight (8;30 tonight and 11;30am tomorrow) and the Air Force Academy at 1;30 at the Ice Box this weekend. NU students I think get in free.

Gosh the last time I skated at the Ice Box, it felt ancient. Hope they've done better since 2011.

No reason both Lincoln and Omaha can't play Hockey. Omaha and Lincoln, basketball, volleyball and baseball.

I understand Title 9 is a thing. It's also eliminated Men's Husker Soccer.

Title 9 needs to be abolished. We as a society are well past the times when this was enacted. Genetic Women have all the privileges as men.
