Define "sniff"In how many years will Nebraska sniff the big game?
Given the talent on our current roster ... I would say we are 5 to 6 years from that. Assuming our recruiting improves, which I think it willOk, How many years will it take Nebraska to make it to the National Championship Game?
Yeah, I thought it was a great lead block till I rewound it and saw that he tackled him. That was a horrible hold on that TD by 88
Holy crap. That ref is jacked.

A huge missed targeting call
Wow. Such pessimism!Don't see us sniffing it this century.

Next season we'll know how close to a championship we are, if there aren't substantial improvements by a coaches 3rd year then it's on to the next one
Completely agree, winning the west next year is a must for Riley. Without question there was improvement in some places this year, now we have to take it to the next level. We were 9-4 this year. Improvement at this point is making the CCG. That's my goal for next year. Improve recruiting, new QBs, better depth on the lines, better special teams play. I'm looking forward to it!
It can definitely happen, Pennsy. 5-6 years? That might be a bit soon.Wow. Such pessimism!
I think we can return.

To be completely honest, watching this game tonight I do miss those NC seasons, big time. Yeah, I know it's a bunch of 18-22 year old kids and all that. But as an official "old timer", we just got used to and always expecting Big Red to be in the mix.
It could happen again, the right coach gets the right players and things come together. You bet it could. Not to take anything from MR, he's a good coach and a good man, but I honestly don't see it happening. Call me negative, I really don't care. (And frankly, I'll support MR and the Huskers as long as he wants to coach).
My point of this post is not to dwell on MR, but just to say, yes, we can and will get back there again some day and I think it will be in my lifetime. GBR!
Yep, that's a very good point. But even though it took 23 years (and if we kick an extra point against Miami for the tie, we win one in '83), we were still knocking on the door. It sure would be fun to be back in the conversation again, whatever we have to do to evolve with today's game--I've all for it.Well, the Huskers had their first MNC in 1970 & 1971. I was too young to remember those games. There was lots of talk about them and how Osborne could never win the big game or against the Florida speed. Then the 90's happened. It took NU 23 years to get our next MNC. We also can't forget that the game has changed. TO most certainly would have evolved his offense to run a more spread attack that we see popular today.
