Sneak Peek: Can the Oregon Ducks continue high-flying ways against Nebraska?
by Nati Harnik, The Oregonian

Nebraska (1-0) at Oregon (1-0)

When:
Saturday, 1:30 p.m. (PST) (FOX)
Where: Autzen Stadium, Eugene

Huskers this season: Mike Riley opened his third season in Lincoln with a 43-36 win over Arkansas State, a game the Huskers' 3-4 defense, under new coordinator Bob Diaco, sealed with a final defensive stop in their red zone. But stops were hard to come by for most of the game: Arkansas State gained 497 yards and 32 first downs and used a bubble screen repeatedly to gash Nebraska's coverage for yards on the perimeter. ASU converted 7-of-13 third downs and its quarterback completed 46-of-68 passes. Also concerning for Nebraska was that the Red Wolves ran back a punt return for a touchdown 63 yards -- the first time the Huskers had allowed a punt return touchdown since Wes Welker in 2001 -- and recovered an onside kick in the final minute, which set up its try for the win on the final possession. Nebraska countered with JD Spielman's 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Tre Bryant's career-high 192 rushing yards on 31 carries. Bryant had all but 33 of Nebraska's rushing yards. Receiver Stanley Morgan caught a team- and career-high 102 yards on five receptions, while linebacker Luke Gifford had a team-high nine tackles. Josh Kalu and Tyrin Ferguson each intercepted a pass for the Blackshirt defense, too.

Star power: Tanner Lee, quarterback: The transfer from Tulane completed 19-of-32 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Only Ryker Fyfe (407 in 2015) and Joe Ganz (405 in 2007) have thrown for more yards in a first career start for a Nebraska quarterback.

Did you know: Nebraska is now 9-0 under Mike Riley when rushing for more than 200 yards.

Threat Level (1-5 scale): 5. The Huskers displayed a balanced offensive attack behind Lee and Bryant in their opening victory, scoring on six of their first eight drives. While Oregon's defensive adjustments to slow Southern Utah after some initial success was encouraging, UO also had the benefit of having more athletes on the field. Nebraska's offense, led by Lee and Bryant, will pose a much different problem. Meanwhile, the Huskers' defensive vulnerabilities were on full display. Arkansas State diced Diaco's defense with short passes and relied little on the run. UO's offense isn't as one-dimensional, and could pose matchup problems across the field after running backs Royce Freeman, Kani Benoit and Tony Brooks-James combined to score eight touchdowns.

The early line: Oregon opened as a four-point favorite, though that line has grown in UO's favor since.

Prediction: Oregon 49, Nebraska 45
