The Nebraska softball team split a doubleheader at New Mexico State on Friday night. The Huskers were held to one hit in a 3-0 loss in game one. Nebraska fell behind 1-0 in game two before scoring the game’s final four runs in a 4-1 victory.
The win in the nightcap marked Rhonda Revelle’s 1,100th win as Nebraska’s head coach. The Huskers are now 3-3 on the season, while New Mexico State is 5-1.
Samantha Bland, Bella Bacon and Alina Felix each had two hits in the doubleheader to lead the Husker offense, while Brooke Andrews hit Nebraska’s lone home run on Friday.
In the circle, Sarah Harness (1-0) was the winning pitcher in game two, with Emmerson Cope picking up the save with 3.0 scoreless innings in her career debut. In game one, Kaylin Kinney (2-2) took the loss, while Caitlin Olensky threw 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.

New Mexico State's Desirae Spearman tossed a one-hit shutout and also homered to power the Aggies to a 3-0 victory over the Nebraska softball team in game one of a Friday doubleheader in Las Cruces, N.M.
Spearman, the reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Week, allowed only a fifth-inning single and finished with four strikeouts. She improved to 3-0 this season and still has not allowed an earned run in her first 20.0 career innings. At the plate, Spearman went 2-for-2 with a double, a homer, a walk and two RBIs.
Kaylin Kinney (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 4.0 innings with three strikeouts. Caitlin Olensky pitched the final 2.0 innings of relief and did not allow a run while surrendering only one single and striking out a pair of batters.
Offensively, Samantha Bland went 1-for-1 with a walk, producing Nebraska's lone hit and walk of the game.
After the first nine batters of the game were retired, Spearman and Kayla Lunar led off the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back home runs to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead.
Nebraska loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third but was unable to score. Bella Bacon reached on an error to begin the inning and Bland walked before another error loaded the bases. But New Mexico State escaped the jam with a strikeout, a force out at home on a grounder back to the circle and a lineout to Spearman.
Spearman then gave the Aggies a 3-0 lead with a two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the frame.
The Huskers produced their first hit in the top of the fifth when Bland reached on a one-out single up the middle. She moved to second on a passed ball but was stranded there following a ground out and a fly out.
Spearman then wrapped up her third victory in as many starts by retiring the Huskers in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
Nebraska (2-3) will look to salvage a doubleheader split in game two against New Mexico State (5-0).

Desirae Spearman made the missed chances hurt when she hit a one-out solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give New Mexico State a 1-0 lead.

With the game tied 1-1, Malecha reached on an error and Caitlynn Neal was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. But Nebraska could not break the tie, as the Huskers left the bases full after a shallow fly out to center and a pop up to the pitcher.
The Huskers scored twice in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. NU got its leadoff hitter on base for the third straight inning when Bacon led off with a double down the left field line. Cope was then hit by a pitch to mark the end of the game for Dix. Jaileen Mancha came on in relief and walked Andrews to load the bases. Sydney Gray drove in Bacon with an RBI fielder’s choice to give the Huskers a 2-1 lead. With one out, Felix singled up the middle to load the bases again. Malecha then reached on an RBI fielder’s choice that scored Andrews, and New Mexico State failed to record an out on the play due to an error. Leading 3-1, Nebraska had the bases loaded with only one out but could not add to its lead.
New Mexico State threatened in the bottom of the third with runners at second and third with two outs, but Harness escaped the jam with a ground out to short.
The Aggies had the tying runners on base again in the bottom of the fourth with one out following a pair of walks. But Harness was up to the task again, retiring the next two batters to preserve the 3-1 lead.
Andrews gave Nebraska an insurance run when she hit a two-out, solo home run in the top of the seventh to make it 4-1.
Cope then retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to earn her first career save.
Nebraska returns to action at the Troy Cox Classic with a pair of games on Saturday against Montana and Sacramento State.
