College underclassmen could now have the opportunity to return to the college game even after declaring for the NBA draft if a new proposal sponsored by the NCAA men's basketball oversight committee is adopted in January.
If implemented, it would begin with the 2016 Draft. The proposal, coordinated by the NCAA, the NBA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), would allow underclassmen to attend the pre-draft NBA combine in May, get evaluated by team personnel and given a true reading on their potential draft status. The players could then decide if they want to stay in the draft or return to school. Players, however, would still be forbidden from signing with an agent during this time.
Current rules do not allow for college players to return to the college game once they have declared for the NBA Draft.
