If Frost declines and Moos is looking for a defensive guru, what about Pitt's coach? Yeah his record is spotty so far at Pitt but he was the mastermind behind Michigan State's rise when Dantonio was hired. Nard just took down #2 Miami and ruined their CFP hopes. Also, helped ruin Penn State's chance at a playoff spot last year.... let's agree that he won't be welcomed anytime soon in Happy Valley.

The duzzi is a bit of a hothead but nothing close to BoPi hot. A little eccentric too, so was Einstein. He's the mad scientist of defense ...and perusing the "points allowed" column from the past couple of seasons it seems to me that side of the garden might need some tending.

Like I said, top of the list -no- but if you are scratching off names....
 
He might win here - but the fan base would go apeshit if he was hired after all the Frost talk
 
He wouldn't be coming to any program, as a DC. He has good Big Ten background, especially, if the Michigan State approach is something you are looking for.

If Frost fell through I wouldn’t lose my mind if he came here. Our defense certainly wouldn’t lay down and die if we got him.

How about Greg Schiano?
 
Narduzzi is an instant defensive upgrade. Unlike Iowa, the bugeaters would can him if he managed to build a respectable defense but still lose 4-5 games with inept offense. And then they would have the blackshirts back and hire a coach with a plan to score.
 
If we are going to keep the same pro style or west coast offense, we may as well bring back Riley. We won’t win with that offensive approach!!! I DO NOT WANT Narduzzi, Schiano, or any one else running the Langsdorf/Callahan pro approach.

Narduzzi is not a very good recruiter.

Its not exactly Camden, New Jersey, either but the campus of Rutgers is and that dump has the benefit of proximity to NYC -the reason they are in the B10.
 
And don’t say the f_cking option offense either. Time to let that crap go already. Riley did give next head coach a head start for a team that will use pass along with the run. No idea what i prefer for an offense, I’m as open as it gets there. I just want our defense back to top 20 in the country or higher (aiming to high?? Or go higher??). But again, with the OBrein and Gebbia (as long as he stays) we have promising looking QBs ahead and Gebbia has shown the studies in film, coaches son and was a Top 100 QB that could have gone to Bama or Ole Miss if wanted to. So again, I’m open on offense but we have a great head start for offense that will use pass as well as run. We DO NOT have to be 73-27 run-pass either. 60-40 isn’t bad goal.

I’m assuming you are against hiring Frost? He runs spread option ball and it works.

Nope not at all. I’d take Frost. I’m talking old school option. And I’m not hung up on Frost, I’d take any good, proven coach we hire. I’m just pointing out we have a big head start with more balance type offense is all. Why jump to an offense that we have to completely rebuild....again? We don’t have to be “West Coast” and we don’t need to go “Old School Triple Option” either. We need to be more open minded about things and not so hung up in the 90s about how it needs to go.

QB run is modern football. Most top teams have a dual threat or at least the QB run game is part of the scheme. There are teams like Ohio St, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Alabama where their dual threat QBs are Dynamic playmakers. Then there are teams like UCF, Auburn, TCU and Oklahoma St where the QB is not a dynamic athlete but they still scare defenses because they will run the ball.

I’d prefer our QB not be a statue all next season. That only makes it easier for opposing defenses
 
I don't know all that defense talk from Moos makes me think that the guy he is looking for better have some decent defensive coaching background or a record that demonstrates a commitment to defense.
I suppose he could overlook it but SF doesn't have much on that side of his resume,
