Yeah, even if you don't like Erstad, this beating of the drum gets old. We can't even get passed the first inning and we keep talking about how much you don't like the coach. Win or lose this tournament, we had a good year. It's been fun.

it's the Big Ten ..be happy to make the tourney and then get on with football season

in football terminology it is a mid-major conference ... relatively speaking the BIG has had a good year and is ranked 7th as a conference in RPI

Hey, maybe we can still get a win tomorrow and add Holy Cross to the awesome list of teams we've beaten in the NCAA tournament under Erstad. Binghamton and Holy Cross. Now there's a pair of college baseball powerhouses.

Honestly, Erstad is a great baseball guy and I think he can get us to Omaha. Recruiting networks take time to develop. I'm not for firing coaches as you know.

However, I don't know what our offensive philophy is. We have no power hitters so I'll assume we want to win with small ball, pitching and defense. With that said, our OBP is crap and we have some of the worst stolen base numbers in the league. So things don't equate.

that is like saying as soon as Kent State starts recruiting like Ohio State they will start competing with them in football. The best baseball players aren't going to consistently go to mid major programs (the BIG) over the power baseball programs in power conferences.

In the BIG the goal is to win the conference and maybe make a little noise in the tourney. I am skeptical that any BIG program is going to be a consistent top program in baseball

The publication I read had the B1G as the 9th best baseball conference. Can't remember which one it was.

Erstad now 1-5 in regionals.

This is the dumbest post ever. You don't put millions into a progam "just to win the BIG conference and maybe make a little noise in the tourney". Lick Erstad's nuts a little more why don't you. If that is the attitude of the baseball program, we should not be paying Erstad what he is making. Drop his salary down to 150k and say "look we dont really care if you win just let the boys have fun". Winning the B1G is like winning a shit conference in football. Nebraska should be dominating the B1G with what is spent on the program. Erstad just isnt a very good coach. He donated a million dollars to the program a few years before he got the gig so he won't go anywhere. Move him to the office.

And why do so many think Meyers is our best pitcher? He isn't. Hohensee would be the best pitcher we have. If you don't think that, you don't understand a Friday pitcher vs a Sunday pitcher. Hohensee goes against the teams top pitchers every Friday night. Meyers gets the 3rd best pitcher which isn't very good in the B1G so the Husker offense does better.

Is it just me or does this announcer make it sound like if Yale wins, it will be the greatest upset in the history of college baseball?(dramatized & exaggerated for message board post)

He was trying to keep viewers alert enough to not sleep through the ads.

you face better pitchers in the postseason (i know, right?) and we never have the offense to rise to the occasion. Can we give Erstad a promotion?

warrennolan.com had the BiG TeN as 7th when I looked a couple of weeks ago. I know there is some variation between services though.
Yes-7th in RPI. And for people who complain about how weak the B1G is, keep in mind the conference ranked 16th the year before Nebraska joined.

We won the B1G. A big step forward. Let's see if we can cash that in with better recruiting. Nobody predicted us to the CWS anyway. It was a successful season. Was it an anomaly or a building block? only time will tell.

Still happy with the season as a whole, but not surprised by the regional performance. Perhaps this witll at least give us a few days' relief from the Johnny SuperFans telling us how lucky we are to have Erstad and that ADs from top programs are lining up to hire him away from NU.

agree - the BIG has made strides - I hope that will continue.

relative to football the 7th ranked conference would equate to the Mountain West or MAC.

Going to be an uphill battle to expect a consistent nationally prominent program from the BIG.
I guess I also question the fiscal ramifications of this goal in a nonrevenue sport.

Harder you compete the more breaks you get it seems
Unfortunately it appeared to me that our hitters were trying a little too hard at times. Yale's starter has the highest win percentage of all college starting pitchers for a reason. The kid is good but I think we needed to relax a little more at the plate. Jake's first inning was a killer as it put a ton of pressure on our hitters to produce.

Totally agree that you can try too hard especially if it isn't going your way. What I was stating was the harder you play you get more breaks you get.
