My observation.... what Nebraska has become

And that hit the nail on the head. Some coaches/schools are committed to championships (see OP), and some coaches are committed to hiring friends and friends of friends. DWilliams may be the first hire by RIley of somebody that he hasn't worked with before or was recommended by a coordinator.

Really the most this thread can be is a discussion for discussions sake, as we're not in any part of a cycle to be considering new hires.

We'll have another big boy opportunity if the early signing/additional coach get voted in. I'm 50/50 that if we can hire another coach that it will be just another OrSU guy.

Maybe I missed your point. Riley, uh, fired those guys. Because they weren't cutting it. It's (hopefully) safe to assume he hired them expecting they would produce better results.

I wasn't impressed with Beck don't give a crap if urban hired him, bet urban would have done something else with him had Herman not be interested. And he wasn't a big name then. I mean we promoted john papauchis to D coordinator enlighten me on how that was a championship mentality. When do we target someone that is impressive? Most of our hires are underwhelming. Could we poach coaches?, championship schools do would we try? Are we too cheap? I remember some people after were worried Bo Pelini would leave. We aren't committed! you think Ohio state is too worried about losing Meyer not really cause they are committed. It makes me sick that some were worried to lose Bo Pelini.

Well have fun with your heart attack, I gave you three big time guys who said no thanks (although sitting at Bama and FSU turned out to be nice consolations for them) and the narrative still persists.

Strangely enough the "fire everyone now" camp, generally has this mantra "NU is a blue blood there's all kinds of top shelf coaches that would love to come here!".

One issue I have with Les Miles is he seems like a sexier version of Solich. He won a title with Saban's players and then drove LSU basically into the ground. The guy never really had an offense, although that could be fixed with the right OC hire (although when he was king money bags at LSU, why didn't he then?).

Les Miles and sexier in the same sentence makes my stomach queasy! :D

haha, the only reason Miles is sexier is cause he won his NC appearance courtesy of the previous legendary coach. Solich got buzzsawed.

The administration at Nebraska doesn't seem like they are relentless and striving for being a premiere program.

You're not informed so I'll help you out.

1] Eichorst is responsible for the largest operating budget in the history of the football program.

2] Eichorst is responsible for the largest recruiting budget in the history of the football program.

3] Eichorst is responsible for the most usage of private aircraft in the history of the football program; paid for and donated.

4] Eichorst is responsible for the largest support staff in the history of football program.

So, if you'd like to continue to speculate based on inaccurate information, just let me know and I won't respond to you again.

I'm fed up with the blame game and if we had ... What does it take to win in college football? A HC who has CHARISMA and can lure top athletes to play for them. There are very people who fit that bill, and those that have it, play for the marbles most of the time. Without top flight athletes you will not bring home any hardware.

I watched Urban Meyer climb up the ranks starting with Bowling Green and Josh Harris as the QB. From there he went to Utah with Alex Smith as his QB, then to Florida with Leak and Tebow as his QB's. Not all of his QB's were recruited by him but the man can coach QB's.

Not sold on Kelly because he inherited his team from Nike money and Bellotti. Scandals surrounding team with recruiting.

Les Miles had a +7 record at OSU and then landed in the hot bed of recruiting. Took over for Nick Saban.

Saban is just a freak of nature. There will never be another one like him.

Harbaugh is like a QB whisperer. Not to sure how long he will last on any given job, but he will win wherever he goes. He has the knack of recruiting and knows how to close.

Tom Herman, still too early to tell

Mike Riley has the character that parents want in a HC. He was +13 at OSU (6-18 since) and won 2 CFL championships, so he knows how to put together a team. I also know he has put numerous players in the league. So far he has improved the talent level since he has been here but now he needs to turn the corner. He has shown he is willing to make changes to the staff and bring in quality assistants. He inherited a floundering ship with self centered individuals who could care less about others and are uncoachable. Their play on the field reflects this. This is not going to be a fast fix or painless fix. But, switching coaches every 3-4 years will do irreparable harm that could take decades to correct. Does Riley have he charisma to lure in the top athletes? Don't know, only time will tell.I prefer a coach like MR over a Harbaugh or Herman who will always be looking for greener pastures.

My favorite is when an ADs give their political speak and people eat that up likes it's Gospel. Except when that political speak doesn't fit their agenda then he is a lying sack of shit

Every AD in America at the introductory news conference will say this is the coach we targeted from day 1. We didn't look anywhere else. It's all BS. But when the AD says we made a decision to fire the previous coach after the game Saturday, well that just bull shit, that AD was hired to fire this football coach.

So he was hired, over a year ago, with the single focus and goal of firing a coach. This we believe. Even though we haven't been told that to be true. But yet we don't believe that in the year leading up to him firing the coach, that he put out any preliminary feelers to gauge interest. Nope he said he had one guy in mind. In is in the Book of Sean, Thanks be to God.

I just think we need to be realistic in our discussions.

I don't like Miles at all. I remember him at Oklahoma St and I no like! Like someone said on here earlier, he ran LSU into the ground.

Your opinion doesn't make it fact.
Kind of ironic that this clown shows up with a couple of posts and says "long time lurker but I don't post much" then proceeds to trash our AD and coach a few weeks before signing day don't you think? Our mods need to take out the trash.
