I played at MN in the early 2000's and couldn't help but wonder why they weren't included in the In-state football tour?

Did coach Petito or someone else piss someone off? I think they've struggled a bit lately but I can't imagine there's not at least one future D1 kid on the team now.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the deal is?

GBR.

Their QB should be recruited. Probably not as a QB for the Huskers but great size and speed.

Looks like he's got some good size at 6'4" but a needs to put on some more muscle if he's still 160 as listed on the roster. I know the D-coordinator Chavez's son Rocky is on the team as well. I haven't watched any games in years but might check them out this year.

Painfully, have witnessed home games last 2 years. MN is easily the least talented program of the three Millard high schools during this time. Not sure middle school kids are looking to play for Fred if they have a choice anymore. IMO, time for a change at the top.

That makes sense. I was not a fan of Coach when I was there. We practiced all summer to transition to a spread offense to utilize our speed and come game 1 we're running the damn option again with 180lb pulling guards lol. Pissed a lot of kids off.

MN offense is not hard to stop. The past 6 years has shown that they need to make adjustments and Petito refuses. They take their best athlete and play him at QB and try to trick everybody by running the triple option. It's brutal.

Petito has to be really old at this point and not willing to change. He seemed old when I graduated in the mid 80s but I guess all teachers seemed old.

They should be better this year thanks to an undefeated freshman team. The senior class should be very good also.

Pierce Mooberry was moved to varsity after a few games. He should be a 6'4 220 lb DE this season.
Henry Rehberg could be a college OT or DT prospect in a few years. He is currently around 6'2 225 lbs. His dad is Scott Rehberg who was a good DT for Iowa State. Caden VerMass was sensational as a OLB, WB and QB.

MN had a super super toxic class about 7-8 years ago and it trickled down and ruined that program. The kids on the team were toxic and there was a core group of parents that were toxic and it just impacted everything. Kids getting kicked off the team only to have the parents threaten legal measures...kids ****ing around during the season...you name it.

It sort of just created a bad atmosphere for awhile.

Clearly that is not the only reason for them sucking as of late but it seemed to start around then.

MN has a good core of kids returning on offense. They did just lose a kid to BW though.

The portal has been very good to BW this year…as usual.
That's the tough thing about Omaha high school athletics. It's a free for all. Take a look at some of those schools that are always losing and I guarantee you that they've lost a lot of good athletes in recent years.

A MN kid left to play at Bellevue West? Hopefully a QB or WR who wanted to be recruited. It’s no secret Petito doesn’t like Nebraska and would push all talented players to consider Iowa first.
That dislike is not unwarranted. NU turned its back on a ton of MN kids after Solich left, despite probably the best run of talent in the school’s history.

I just checked the BW roster on HUDL. Issiah McMorris is there. He has started at MN since he was a freshman at CB and WR.

That doesn't surprise me. There was a culture there for a long time of winning, but also of some other stuff that's far uglier. Definitely some entitlement issues with how successful they were. I've been wanting a change in leadership for at least 3 or 4 years now, but Begley was at one time one of Fred's assistants so it was unlikely to happen. I believe Begley is retiring next month, so maybe a change will occur in the next year or two.

They had a couple of kids at WR that were really good. Torched the Millard West D repeatedly in the one game I attended. Unfortunately, the MN defense was 11 turnstiles.

Yep Begley is retiring end of this school year. Aaron Bearinger will be his successor, been at the school since 05, former baseball coach. I give Fred 1 more year.

How much has MN been affected by Gretna, Elkhorn and Elkhorn South, in terms of losing talent?

Does Coach Petito still call people he doesn't like Pugsley and Dingles? Man, that was hilarious.

I think he's pushing 70. He can rub people the wrong way, but he's a good man.

Love Brian Begley, but he's softer than an Iowa woman's gunt.

We were never told the reason for this, so that makes more sense now. Thank you for clarifying.

Understand if you don’t want to expand further, but I’m interested in what uglier issues you’re referring to?

I have a lot of stories myself being there when we played in back to back state championships. The only things I remember we’re that if you played on the team you do get special privileges, & even some teachers would kind of fanboy out or let you come into class late as you want — besides coach Salberg of course lol. You could also fight in the locker room area and no matter what it’s handled internally by coaches, not suspensions or school administration.

That’s a great point about Gretna, Elkhorn and Elk South. I wonder that myself.

he is a good man in that he does pick favorites, but he always fights for everyone that may not be very talented but hard working to get a scholarship to any small school that will watch the film. Especially those with family issues and financial struggles. One of our best players slept in his car half the week in the back parking lot and not many people know that.

2005 was also when the MN Baseball team went undefeated I believe. Connor Gillespie from that team went on to play 3rd base for the San Francisco giants. After he was drafted a few of us and Connor went to Buffalo Wild Wings, really nice guy.

I'm sure MN was no different than a lot of places in this regard and I'm not going to go into details, but I'll use 3 words: hazing, alcohol, steroids

Thanks for sharing. I never saw any bad hazing maybe harmless pranks like hiding a helmet or something.

-Steroids we’re always a 0 tolerance policy upon anyone and coach would kick you off the team for that immediately. But who knows, like any program, if one person goes to GNC and what they think they’re buying is some BS legal bs “natural test booster”, but is actually an illegal steroid who knows. It was a running joke by other schools our blue Gatorade had steroids in it which is ridiculous and funny.

Alcohol - not sure where that came from, I mean on school property you’d be automatically suspended for 19 days and probably kicked off the team. On the weekends like every other high school party? Sure.

The moronic system has created a monster at Bell West. They can recruit whoever they want while the won't allow certain schools to do the same thing.
I guess I am not 100% sure how it works at the BPS...can you just opt in?

If you think it’s ridiculous right now, wait until you all find out that Malachi Coleman is transferring from Lincoln East to Bellevue West. That’ll have you shaking your head.

I wish I was young enough to play H.S. football again. I would not mind coaches yelling at me ... again.
