Miles Jones decomitts from Vandy

Kid is small but super explosive!!!
Yeah, not a great 40 time for his size but appears to have a great burst. And really that's all that matters anyway. I think he could really be another JD Spielman type of player. I always thought Spielman would make a great pass receiving threat out of the backfield and you could hand him several times a game as an RB. Opponents would never know if he was a RB or WR. And whether or not, Frost decides to use JD in that fashion next year, it looks like Coach is looking for that type of player in Miles Jones.

He's also like Legronne, in that he isn't highly rated but you can see where he'd fit as a great role player in that offense.

Frost and Co- did the private jet thing yesterday for Casey and his dad, spent most of the day with them over MLK Holiday. . On Thursday they are doing the same thing with this kid- he signs on Thursday- take it to the bank.

Explosive- football speed with excellent body control- that is the kind of speed we need
FROST IS A CLOSER
Aggressive hungry young bloods burning the midnight oil- because they are invested in MAKING NU GREAT AGAIN- for real in action/deed not cheap talk

Heard in on the radio this afternoon from one of the recruiting analyst guys- cant remember which one. He was pretty detailed- 3 coaches including frost- private jet- spent most of the day there with him and his dad, who I think is in coaching as well.

Rivals Story

Miles Jones’ decision to back off his commitment to Vanderbilt carries a less-than-shocking feel, as Commodore fans knew such a thing was a possibility when new Nebraska head coach ScottFrost began his pursuit of Jones upon his arrival in Lincoln. The four-star athlete visited Nebraska’s campus over the weekend and things began to look like a toss-up – at best – in the hours following the trip.

Jones did not commit to Nebraska on Wednesday, but he did announce his choice to back off his commitment to Vanderbilt. He made the decision, which many expected, public with a tweet.

How it hurts Vanderbilt
Vandy loses a longtime commit in the dynamic Jones, who served as an electric kick returner as well as a focal point of a state championship offense at Planation (Fla.) American Heritage High School. He was also one of just five four-star commits in the Commodores’ 2018 class. Losing a commitment from anyone after the Early Signing Period is less than ideal, as the player pool has been significantly depleted. That said, Vandy's 2018 class still includes a handful of impressive peices. This one stings, but there have been more devastating decommitments.

Who it may help :
Nebraska is the obvious benefactor here. Jones is coming off an official visit to Lincoln and has an in-home visit with Frost scheduled for Thursday. Jones may announce a decision in the wake of said conversation, so things look great for the Huskers. Recruiting is a strange game, however, so anything is possible. Frost’s work in Florida can’t be undersold, as his name carries cache in the Sunshine State. He is, after all, coming off a perfect season at UCF, a program that went 0-12 the year before his arrival. Jones is not committed to Nebraska as of now, but Husker fans have to feel good about this one.

I will wager any amount you want that he doesn't sign with Nebraska this Thursday :)

Roy Helu was listed by Rivals as a 4.77 40 guy when he signed with NU. People bitched about that back then too. I would say Roy was plenty fast when he got on campus.

It's always best to take 40 times on recruiting profiles with a grain of salt. I know Adrian Martinez said his 4.79 time was from a camp the summer before his Sophomore year of HS and it just stuck with him. On the flip side, almost all the 4.4 times are self reported times. Our coaches must think Miles is fast and shifty.

They've obviously made him a priority and they've seen him in person multiple times. I suspect his real 40 time is just fine.

Hopefully they're looking past the 40 time because it's an overrated number. Take a look at his shuttle time. It's listed at 4.09 seconds. Just for comparison. Dion Lewis ran a 4.18 at the combine. Oh, and his 40 time? 4.57 seconds.

Coffee is for closers. I think Frost had one of these installed on Day 1 of his tenure.

Will be more than happy to see another 4* hit the board. Top 25 class starting to look realistic. Top 20 a possibility?
Maybe on Rivals... 247 is the site I rely on for the class ranking. Rivals bases ranking on the school the kid commits to. I guess I am not even in the same ballpark as your optimism of this class. I am however very optimistic that these coaches can coach them up to their fullest potential.

For Example

If Brendan Radley Hiles remained committed to Nebraska he would be rated a high 4* since he did in fact commit to Oklahoma, and was considering other high end offers he ended up a 5*... Cameron Jurgens was in the rivals 100. Every Rivals ranking adjustment he dropped a little bit, and finally ending up as a low rated 4*.

On the opposite side of things, just so you know it is not only about them dropping the recruits ranking when they commit to us. I'll go back to 2013 for the best example. Kevin Maurice was a 5.4 two star recruit, then after committing to us he jumped to a 5.7 three star in the rankings.

Rivals feels that when kids commit to certain schools they are in a range unless blatantly obvious like a Martinez, Radley-Hiles, Joshua Moore ect...

Kid Commits to Nebraska = 5.6 - 5.8
Same Kid Commits to Alabama or USC = 5.7 - 5.9
Same Kid Commits to Iowa or Purdue = 5.5 - 5.7

That is why I like 247 composite, because it pulls in the rating from multiple sites. I have been on here too long, and it is obvious.

I base how good a recruit is on the offer list.

Kind of like this...

- If the kid has offers from 10+ upper end Power 5 schools he is a 5* and we got blue chip athlete

- If the kid has offers from 5-10 upper end Power 5 schools and a laundry list of other Power 5 schools he is a 4* with a great possibility of being a Blue Chip athlete.

- If the kid has offers from 1-2 upper end Power 5 schools and a few other Power 5 schools he is a 3* with a shot at being a Blue Chip athlete

- If the kid has offers for a handful of mediocre Power 5 schools and a bunch of FCS schools he is a 2* and IMO have less than 5% chance of being a Blue Chip Athlete... Also IMO a wasted scholarship <<< We have quite a few at this level right now, but I get that we have to fill holes this cycle.

Edit: I know there are some exceptions like Rural kids from less populated states. Also a kid that has been committed to a school for a long time and then decommits late in the process

Miles track profile shows he ran the open 400 with PR of 50.79. Ran on a 4X100 relay with a kid who is an Auburn commit and a kid who is a GA lean with a time of 40.17. Also ran a leg on a 4X200 where the 200 split per kid was 21.25 (1:24.75). Not all states run the 4X200 in HS, but in WV where they do, that relay time would be the State Record by 2 seconds.
Miles Jones is plenty fast.

Isn't this exactly what you are deriding Rivals for?
No Rivals bases it on an exact school, and has nothing to do with the offer list.

If a Rivals recruit was listed at let's say a 5.9 and 4* and in June, 2017 he committed to Nebraska over Alabama, USC, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Auburn, UCLA, Penn State, Florida and Florida State. Rivals would still downgrade that recruit to a 5.8 level, and won't take into account the offer list.

Now if that same recruit had offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Duke, Boston College, Mississippi State, Rutgers, Missouri and Vanderbilt the same thing would happen.

Switch it up here and let's say the recruit commits to USC instead of Nebraska in June 2017. He will most likely end up at 6.0 and 4*

Rivals don't care about the offer list they care about the school they commit to

but aren't offers self reported?
