Mike Riley...to New Orleans?

Best not to compare Harbaugh and Riley. Nothing good can come of that.
Only a fair comparison IF you are giving the talent level and depth that each had to work with. Hoke's only obvious hole in his recruiting was at QB. That's a HUGE one and cost Hoke his job, but Harbaugh was able to patch it somewhat with a grad transfer. We had WAY too many holes on our depth chart to even think about patching it with ONE guy. Let's see what we can do this next year with a better linebacker depth chart and hopefully some young guys stepping up at DE. I agree that the jury is still out on Riley but I'm good with riding this pony for at least another couple of years.

My how far our program expectations have dropped - How do we know we could not get Kelly or Herman unless we really tried? and I dont mean just asking them I mean paying some major money

Who was the last superstar coach we hired? The last coach we spent "whatever it takes to get"? Devaney, from Wyoming? Osborne, from Devaney's staff? Solich, Osborne's hand picked successor? Callahan, arguably the biggest name, coming off a Super Bowl season? A former coordinator named Pelini?

Know your program, this argument is so damn tired. We don't open the checkbook and take who we want. We don't buy our success, we build it. It's never been any other way, and it's probably not ever going to change. In fact, it's about the only identity our program has left. We didn't buy the Cadillac, we built it. Our program expectations haven't changed - we still expect and desire success via identity. This coach, the next coach, and the coach after that all need to embrace that.
