Mike Riley or Charlie Strong?

I wonder if there's anywhere we could give strong a job. I bet he's pretty good to get where he got.
it just seems like on defense we have who we want at every coaching position.

Adnan Virk, who was hosting ESPN’s College Scoreboard, told co-hosts Joey Galloway and Danny Kanell, “It’s getting awfully tight right now, the noose around Charlie Strong’s neck.”

OOPS!!

"Wanna get away"? Commercial in there I think.

Sorry, but I don't see this as all that bad. Don't mean to offend anyone, but this phrase has been commonplace for a long time now.

Me neither, but in this day and age if you say something like that, even if every single person who read it knew what you meant and knew it wasn't meant in a derogatory way, expect some flak. Just how it is.

That's fine, I think people can deal with flak. Not sure an apology is needed every time, for every person. PC gone overboard.

I think Strong can / will be a hell of a coach at this level given the right fit.

Texas needs a Mack Brown type. Someone who can "manage" all the boosters / people of influence above all else and let his assistants carry the water from a coaching standpoint.

He chose the wrong job. A bunch of top boosters had a major issue with hiring him. He could have waited and headed back to Florida...much better fit.

I'm a UT grad and that is exactly what my wife said. He was NEVER a fit for the Texas boosters and all the cooks in the Texas kitchen. He could be at Florida or Miami. I think Miami was the better fit. I think he goes to the NFL after a break as a DC and then comes back at a scrub power 5 school.

It is pretty apparent Strong is not the right fit for Texas - good coach - but it is not translating at UTerus. You have to manage alot of egos there to get the good players on your roster AND have them play well - Mack Brown even struggled to do it that last few years and he is one of the best ass kissers on the planet. I think the rise of TCU and Baylor and exodus of Texas talent to the SEC is why Texas is struggling. The fix is glad handing alot of boosters, high school coaches, etc. Strong is not there yet and running out of time.

When a school like Texas comes along and decides to give you their job, one of the best in all of CFB, and makes you a millionaire many times over, you take it. He did the right thing taking it, is it possible Teddy made him look like a better coach than he really was? That would be my guess.

So in your opinion, what exactly is Strong doing wrong as a coach? I mean, geez, he has access to great talent yet falls flat. But so did Mack Brown in his last years.
And, not trying to be offensive, but imo Texas is perennially, after the Darrell Royal years, an underachiever. Texas does less with more than just about any school out there. So maybe the problem is not Strong. Maybe the problem is exactly as you point out: too many cooks meddling in the coach's kitchen.

No attention to detail in all 3 phases of the game.
Never should have brought Watson as OC.
Big 12 is spread central and his defense prowess did not adjust accordingly
His type of coaching depends on junior/senior leaders, but he was rebuilding from ZERO and he never has had a chance to build this and it's to late with all the 1-2 years starters
Hiring AD was fired after 2 years, but he didn't allow Charlie to hire his preferred staff and put him on a tight budget at $$$ University. He made some good money, but he likely should have never taken the job.
