This doesn't make much sense to me as the team will probably be evacuating anyway.

This can't be right. You play every game, as scheduled, no matter what.

evacuating to Jonesboro with a bunch of football equipment is probably not he same.

Why not leave ASAP then? Have the U kids stay some place safe for awhile vs battling Irma. Makes zero sense. Looks like some people just didn't want to bust their butts or spend extra $ on additional hotel stays. Miami never wanted to play this game and they found a reason out of it.

So if they evacuate you think they are leaving their football equipment? They play FSU next weekend.

yes, they will leave the football equipment. If the hurricane hits Miami, the odds of them playing a football game 6 days later is probably .5%. Also considering the current track is for the hurricane to still be a major hurricane a day and a half after landfall, and be travelling up the middle of the state, Tallahassee is going to get hit by at least a tropical storm on Thursday.

Another obvious drunk post.

I lived in Florida for years and dealt with many a hurricane. My first memory of one is Hurricane Hugo, followed by Andrew. Anyway, yes, to your point Tuco, evacuation and/or prep like storing supplies and boarding up your windows takes minimum 24 hours, but usually went on for 2-3 days prior to landfall. For a major, dangerous storm like Andrew, people started evacuating a week in advance.

Do teams actually just not play games? That is kind of mind-blowing...

I get the cancelling of the Arky St game. But given that the conference part of the season awaits and getting back to Coral Gables soon is not a lock, I would think they would be packing essential equipment on trucks and moving it with the team.

If the hurricane stays on it's current path, they won't be playing the game in Tallahassee either. We are talking 175 mph winds, that would be like an F4 hurricane moving at 15 mph for hours.

I wonder if ADs in the possible affected areas are looking at contingency sites for games.

Do you know how many people are needed to travel with a major college team? Most of them will have families who need to be evacuated, homes to get boarded up, places to stay and resources to take with them. The idea that dad should just leave now while mom and the kids stay behind is ludicrous.

This is a shame on many levels. The obvious being the danger to life posed by Irma. Hope everyone in Florida comes out ok.

But it is also a shame in the sense that I was looking forward to that game. Would have been Interesting

Something tells me if they were going to play a big-name school, they'd make alternate arrangements. But going to play at a school with a small stadium already has "trap" implications, and my guess is they didn't really try that hard to make alternate arrangements here. Canceling the game hurts Arkansas State a lot more than it does Miami.

You mean like LSU and Florida?

Yes I have. While i lived in Texas. Also just helped my sister in Houston do it.

Is it easy? No. Is it do-able? Yes.

Especially with the Canes, since I am sure they have their own means of travel.

Another obvious drunk post.
Obviously not. I have been thru this stuff.

Obviously just another post you answer where you have nothing to give to the topic, but you like to write to make yourself feel better.

My sister says hello. So happy we helped her escape from Houston to Arkansas none the less.

So you want all the people associated with the football program to put a football game over the safety of their family? Get a grip, logistically it may be doable, but at what cost? Its a non conference game against Arkansas St. It has nothing to do with being afraid of an opponent and more to do with football not being all that damn important.

No, I want the football players to be safe & keep them out of harms way. What better way then to re-locate them to Jonesboro Arkansas. It only makes sense. Does everyone whose associated with the football program have to come? No. Coaches, players, & equipment managers. Everything else is really not that important.

But I do get your point about the team worrying about their families that may be in the area. But really what good does it do being their? Its kind of a dicey situation. You help all the kids by relocating them but you may hurt a few that needs to be there for their family.

And I really don't care about the game. I am just saying, they all have a chance and a place to stay for a bit while the storm hits. It just makes sense

You are changing your tune. Earlier it was because Miami was cheap and didn't want to pony up for hotels and that they looking for a way to get out of the game.

That was insensitive of me. But I am being 100% serious now. My bad.

but I do take some what offence to your post for assuming I have no idea what I am talking about. But take even more offence to hddude55's calling my post a drunk post. I've been thru this crap and its not fun, especially since that was an assumption on his part that was not a good one at all. That was very much a jerk move.

bottom line - The best plan of attack is to get the hell out of harms way. It makes perfect sense to relocate to Arkansas for it. It may be insensitive for me to say, better to help a few then none at all... Don't play the game but hell, keep the hotel rooms and let the kids live in Arkansas for a bit

No offense, but there is no way in hell I would have got on a plane to safety and left my mom in the path of a Cat 5 hurricane.

on the filp side, there is no way in hell I would let my child stay behind for my comfort vs he or she being sent to a safe place without me.

Central Florida has moved their game vs Memphis to Friday
Florida St has moved their game from 7:00 to 12:00
Florida hasn't decided yet
Florida intl looking for a neutral site
Dolphins /Bucs moved to week 11

Had Nebraska not played ASU or had Nebraska won in a blow out, no one on this board would give a damn about Miami playing or not playing. That clearly shows misplaced priorities in my opinion. Sometimes real life trumps football and message boards. Get over it.

Don't have a problem with Miami cancelling the game, but the fact they won't reschedule just shows they want no part of this game. Chalk it up to be chickensh*t. They sure aren't the Miami of old.

Would imagine that possibilities of a reschedule were discussed and found to be unworkable or sub-optimal. Hence the cancellation. For the U, there will also be next week to deal with.

It appears the South Florida vs. UCONN game in East Hartford is being moved up to 10.30 a.m., Saturday from the original noon start time. Not sure what USF's plans are given this change. But at least they plan to play the game for now.

If Irma hits Coral Gables as a Cat 5 of record strength they're going to have plenty of problems beyond this week's Ark St game.

Not possible. I've already read from others on here its completely impossible to do or maybe they just actually want to play.

Conference game. not a meaningless home and home non conference game. Tampa is also not in a direct path of the hurricane and will more than likely be on the clean side, meaning it will be mostly a wind event for them.

A jerk move for calling you out, huh, pal? Too bad you weren't drunk when you posted. At least you'd have an excuse for being a jerk. Your back pedaling doesn't change your original jerk comments on the subject.
