HEARD: "The standard here is set so high it's like at Texas - nine's not enough. But I think everybody knows that. And Mike knows that. He's very aware of it. He's got to get it back to the top tier." - Former Texas coach Mack Brown on Nebraska
SEEN: New director of high school relations Chris Brasfield running the high school coaches clinic.

SEEN: Wideout Jamal Turner beating true freshman corner Eric Lee on a go route for a touchdown. Zack Darlington threw the pass.

SEEN: Darlington throwing a perfect pass to tight end Luke McNitt for another score. It was the best throw of any quarterback during the 7-on-7 drill.

SEEN: During one-on-one drills between offensive linemen and defensive linemen, Maliek Collins made a quick move and blasted by guard Chongo Kondolo, who's now working with the top unit.

SEEN: Greg McMullen returning to practice and looking stout in drills against Givens Price.

SEEN: Tough days overall for quarterbacks in 7-on-7 drills. Throwing with and against a strong wind, many held on to the ball too long and missed open quarterbacks. Josh Kalu picked off A.J. Bush while Jonathan Rose picked off Tommy Armstrong.

SEEN: An offensive line drill in which each player would practice their initial "punch" by moving down a line of three players.

A quick rundown of Nebraska's Saturday practice which took place in Memorial Stadium.
- Running backs Mike Riley[/B] said all should be fine going forward.
- Daniel Davie[/B] didn't practice once again, but Riley said he was confident that Davie could return in the final week of the spring.
- Cethan Carter[/B] is done for the spring, and will undergo surgery on his foot Monday. Riley said Carter will be back in time for the start of summer workouts and won't be limited beyond this spring.
- Even with Carter out, Riley said he has been pleasantly surprised by the other tight ends on Nebraska's roster.
- Riley said he still doesn't have a quarterback pecking order, though Tommy Armstrong[/B] is taking the reps with the first team. "We're going to let this thing play out," Riley said.
- As it relates to depth, Riley said he likes the depth Nebraska has at offensive line. He said that the depth at offensive line has been one of the more noticeable changes from Oregon State to Nebraska. Riley said they never rotated offensive linemen at Oregon State.
- Riley again mentioned walk-on Graham Nabity[/B] as a guy who has made "a ton of football plays," Riley said.
- Riley said the next two practices are going to be "really, really important" for what Nebraska will do in the Red-White game next week.
- Nebraska installed some of its goal line offense on Saturday.
Much more coming from Nebraska's Saturday practice.

Lot of reporters at today's practice talking up how good Darlington looked. Stanton played scout team today and I haven't heard much mention of Fyfe.

It does sound like Armstrong, Bush, and Darlington have opened a little space in the battle to be in the top 3.

I may have my facts wrong but didn't Darlington have to be airlifted from a game due to a serious head injury and subsequnetly had difficulty with speech for some time following the injury?

With as little as we know about these injuries I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would let him back on the field.

I simply don't think the medical community knows enough about the long term effects of these injuries. I could understand in the setting of a mild to moderate concussion but his injury was severe and bordering on life threatening depending on how much swelling might occur and had significant post-injury sequela for some time.

I just can't see taking any risk when the stakes are potentially so high. I wish they would get it over with and place him on medical.

I disagree ... 20 year olds don't always have the best long term perspective and from a university and program standpoint it is incumbent to protect your athletes not to mention the storm that would ensue if the kid had serious long term sequela resulting from a decision to roll the dice and subject him to another potential head blow

Agree jlb however, he's been cleared not only by University medical staff but personal Darlington family one(s) too.

thanks for the info ... I just don't think we know enough about these type of injuries to draw any firm conclusions .... tough spot for all invovled .. feel for the kid and family

Imo, prior to his injury, Zack Darlington was on his way to becoming the Florida HS Player of the Year and a HS All American . He would've been a high 4 Star and the Jewel of the 2014 recruiting class.

I watched the hit he took live on ESPN. He immediately went limp. I thought the kid was dead. In the Spirit of Easter, I hope we can someday witness his resurrection.

Personally I agree with you on this, but it really is his and his family's choice. If I remember right, his father was his high school football coach. He has to be at least somewhat aware of risks of concussions. I also think Nebraska is one of the leaders for concussion research. Hopefully it doesn't put his life at risk.

+1. On all of this.

Saw a Facebook from Nabity's Dad earlier tonight:

"Graham has been truly blessed by the opportunity this new coaching staff
has given him to compete. They are truly a great group of leaders and
mentors and we are extremely grateful."

Don't worry, many board experts say the same thing. It's just that Armstrong broke out last year, but then regressed, he's surely done for good this time.

There are a lot of us, that get knocked out once and thats all it amounts too; I would go for ward on multiple ok's, as he has. He is probably in the best place in the world to be monitored. Multiple negative events would end it.
Notice in an observers " seen at practice" report; Darlington is the one in two separate reports; hitting a receiver long who suddenly gets a step for a T D, hitting a TE for a long T D with others having a bad day, could we be missing he is the one doing progressions , with quick strike reaction? ..... In basketball the experts were giving Kentucky a 47% chance against the field: yet ND nearly took them out and Wiscy did - know it alls want a two team playoff, not 8, so they can control things and stroke their egos, tOSU dominated and won the football title because of a 4 team playoff they barely got in. Its America , our teams strive for the win and deserve the opportunity.
And so do our players. Glad for the new staff here.

I don't think he is going against the advice of many doctors and specialist on concussions, I would assume at this point he is medically cleared, but what do I know.

Did this happened his junior year? Rivals already have the ratings by spring of their junior year of which he was a average 3 star.

First game of Senior year. If I recall he was initially a 5.7 3-star and seemed like a lock to get his 4th star. We beat out OSU for his verbal.

Enjoyed this:

Reporter: Mike, there's two practices left before the Red White Game and you take this team in front of 70,000 people--

Riley: WHAT[/I]?!?!
