On its surface, I don't think we can say it was, at least not yet. I don't think we'll know until we see the lineup next November whether THIS was a successful season. If our lineup is Roby, Palmer, Copeland, Allen/Johnson/Watson, I think we can look at THIS season as a successful reset after five years of stumbling around and learning by Miles.
My first glimpse of the Huskers this season was the abomination at St. John's. Wow, that was hard to watch. My last glimpse was last night. Wow, that was hard to watch. Of course, the record was good and there were some fun moments along the way, but also many, many causes for concern.
I've mentioned it before and others have too, but the overall lack of basketball IQ is, at times, alarming. Someone brought it up last night, but did you notice when we had the Miss. St. player trapped by two defenders in the corner and we fouled him? WTF!
Other concerning things were the stagnation of Glyn Watson. Wow. And the fact that Anton Gill continued to jack bricks most of the second half of the season while not losing playing time Allen. Ugh.
Last night I saw some selfishness for the first time in a while. Almost like our Miami transfer was trying to showcase himself before his exit. I hope I'm wrong, because I like him.
Taking advantage of the transfer market is fine and savvy. But churning the roster year after year is not.
If we lose multiple starters again for whatever reason over the next several months, I would send Miles packing. Bringing in talent is important, but stability is too. And we have certainly not had much of that.
