Martinez playing?

Respectfully disagree. You May be right, but I think it’s too early to make this determination, especially with the QBs we have in the QB room. Everyone (except Nikki) seems to agree Vedral’s ceiling is lower, and so to change QBs means Martinez needs to be struggling a lot more than he is now, or Vedral has to impress much more than he is now. Frost won’t just hand it over to Vedral... he’s gonna have to prove it long term...
Another thing that many aren't factoring is the transfer possibility. I don't know Martinez, or his character, but one would have to consider if Frost would decided to bench Martinez for Vedral that Martinez could get pissed and transfer out. I doubt Frost wants another Gebbia situation. So he has to play the situation very carefully. Marinez is struggling no doubt, but guessing we can all agree we don't want to lose him.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Martinez pissed off. Maybe a little bit rattled at a press conference, but pissed? I doubt he would be interested in playing somewhere else, even if he was benched. My guess is he might turn to basketball. I think he's more suited to that game, but unsure if he's good enough at it to get a scholarship.

Someone should start the Official Adrian Martinez kicks puppies, cheats on exams and puts Coke in his water cup thread.

Then we could all post our uncanny observations about his character, followed quickly by the caveat that we don't know two shits about the guy.

There is still time before someone beats you to it?

The problem is vedral has Not gotten a meaningful chance to prove anything one way or another. He should have seen significant action in the 2nd half of the Ohio State game. Just saying from what I saw with my two eyes. AM has not been impressive watching accuracy wise during pregame and vedral seems to be a step faster when he came in the game.

My only response is that’s what practice is for. Not trying to be a smart aleck, just saying we’ve seen a fraction of what the coaches have seen. If they are close, the coaches aren’t going to make a change. Vedral really needs to wow them in practice for a change to happen.

And I can’t see the coaches staying with Martinez for 2 1/2 more years if this is the best he’s gonna be.

I am happy the injury was nothing serious. Martinez is a good person and represents NU well. With that said, he is in some kind of regressive funk right now. I know it's not entirely his fault as our offense as a whole has its issues that are sort of contributing to it. But the question I have is how long will Frost give him to find that level we all know he has the potential for? We can talk about how much more talented he is than Vedral all day, but the fact is we are not seeing it on the field. Vedral looked far more poised and confident from the little we did see of him. He may not be the fastest guy out there but he has a quick first step. He may not have the strongest arm either, but he gets the ball where it needs to be and is comfortable with taking shots downfield. However, the biggest reason I want Vedral to get more playing time if not start is because he knows Frost's system so well and I believe he has more upside than Martinez in terms of making it run efficiently. When he was operating it, I got glimpses of the offenses Frost oversaw at Oregon and UCF.

You are in a regressive funk following this substanceless post. Words like "looked" are ignorant and pointless. Amart statistically is even to his stats from last year with a vastly inferior offense. His backup lead us on a 35 yard drive and got us 3 points in 1 quarter of play...

Yes I get that.

True, but I don't get the impression he's that type of guy.

He can be standing in full pads during stretching for all the media to see. He can also be standing on the sidelines in full pads and not actually practicing when the media leaves. I am hopeful but not reading anything into this until kickoff on Saturday. Winking

I for one will be shocked if he plays at all. With a bye week coming, and the meat of our schedule ahead - I don't think they risk hurting him worse, especially in the cold, perhaps slippery weather.

I’d rather roll with Vedral and I agree get 2AM healthy during the bye week and playing the last 5 games..

Seeing him leaving the field Saturday, looks like he isn’t going to have his full mobility in Minneapolis...

Making sure I cover all the bases here:

If Martinez doesn't play he's a great big pussy who doesn't know the difference between pain and injury. Why in my day we rubbed some dirt on it, strapped on our leather helmets and got our butts out there!

If Martinez plays it's because he's putting himself and his stats above the team, and he's afraid of losing the starting job. Pretty effing selfish, going out there when you know you shouldn't be playing!

And all you Kool-Aid drinkin' losers know I'm totally right about this!
Wrong!

I think you believed the hype and are now seeing everything he does with your own two eyes through butt hurt brown shaded lenses.
Next man up...we are headed in the right direction regardless. Any nerd can look up stats but football is bigger than stats...gotta have a football eye to see the details of this beautiful game. So dont get your panties in a bunch just because we dont worship your numbers. Adrian Martinez is not showing improvement in year 2.

He really couldn't put any weight on it leaving the field. But I'm not an orthopedist, so maybe a few days rest with some meds and therapy and he's good to go.
