Lunardi has Nebraska as "next out"

When picking his NCAA field, maybe Lunardi relies heavily on the BDI - aka the Buster Douglas Index.

Northwestern has never made the tournament. So like Nebraska has no tournament wins.

Let's next just beat Iowa.

Agreed. The GW loss is going to be the "BAD LOSS" on the board if Nebraska plays well enough to be considered for an at large bid. As happy as I am to unexpectedly be 2-0, we got a long way to go to even be talking about the dance.

Beat Clemson and Gardner Webb and they would have a legit shot

There is still 16 Big Ten regular season games left so a lot can happen...but, like Lunardi referenced...we should be in the discussion right now. 49 RPI #4 SOS last I checked. If we find ourselves on the bubble at years end we will not be the only team with a Gardner Webb type loss. But that was a huge loss unfortunately, it's likely going to cost us 10-15 RPI spots when its all said and done. With that said, if we can find a way to win 11 Big Ten games I have to think that will put us in good position. Easier said than done.

NU probably needs 10 more wins to be seriously considered a bubble team going into conference tournaments. That would put them at 18-12 going into he B1G tournament. 19-13 might get them in.

No chance they get left out if they go 12-4 in conference play

I agree. I put the number at 11 more wins. At least 10 before the tourney. But I am not really getting my hopes up. Purdue is a terrible matchup, and will give us fits twice. We do have one of the top 2 or 3 backcourts in the conference. Anything can happen I guess.

I bet the basketball fans on this board never thought this discussion was just around the corner a few very short weeks ago.

So we won our first 2 B1G games, both on the road, so all of a sudden we go from a team that might not win a conference game to a team that has a chance to win 10-12 conference games?

Talk about a turn around that is getting everyone's hopes up high. Wow.

Where are all the Negative Nancys in this thread?

I would bet that if we lose the next two games, 75% of this board next week will be be back to thinking we won't win more than two more games the rest of the way :)

I am pretty sure that is how it works around here. They better win, or at least not lose by more than 10 points Thursday and/or Sunday, otherwise the 'next coach for Nebrasketball' thread will get started Winking

I just can't believe what the lineup changes and attitude adjustments have done for the level of play on the team and the level of optimism of the fan base.

ESPN had an article on the front page last night talking about a down year in the B1G. Is that helping our cause to win 12 conference games?

While it's nice to see the early season interest in Husker hoops, I'm fearful that the ups and downs of a young basketball team will certainly just build higher expectations so the anti-Miles camp will say "see? this team should have made the NCAA tournament and Miles can't coach." ignoring the fact that Miles has been successful at every level. This is simply the best gathering of talent Nebraska basketball has had in 20 years. This is all based on the recruiting that Miles has done. Give the man time. I've said time and time again, in two years, this team is a lock to make the NCAA tournament and should be favored to win a game or two. They may make the dance this year, more likely next year, but in 2 years, this will be the finest team Nebraska will place in the field.

I refuse to get too excited as Ive been let down on a few occasikns in the past. But I am all for them winning and proving me wrong.

I'm still here. Two nice wins.

In order to be considered for an at-large NCAA bid, a team needs to be .500 in the league and win 19 games based on last year's selections

With that said in order for us to get to 19 wins, we need to go 13-5 in the league or make up any lower win total with conference tournament wins. Example if we finish with an overall regular season record of 16-14 (10-8), we would have to win 3 conference tournament games, maybe could squeeze in at 18-15 if they win 2 in the tournament.

Still a long long road.

I agree completely. I would not hold my breath on an NCAA appearance this season. A nice NIT run could be more healthy for this team over a one and done NCAA tournament.

That said, I do think a tournament appearance in the next couple of years is likely and would be important for continued growth.

I think I'm an oddity among college basketball fans in that I really enjoy the regular season, especially conference play. The Huskers dug themselves a pretty big hole in terms of getting an NCAA bid. But if they have truly turned a corner and perform well in Big Ten play, I'll enjoy that whether it ends in an NCAA bid or not. Really glad to see Miles pull the trigger on some lineup changes and how he's distributing minutes. There will likely be a game or two in which that comes back to bite him, but he needed to get more Big Ten-level talent on the court, even if that talent is a bit raw.

This seriously blows my mind. Hope it can be pulled off! GBR!

Edit: 4 out of 40 brackets... ok I can see that. That makes more sense at this point in the season.

Many of the brackets have not been updated since our wins @Indiana and @Maryland. Obviously, things can change in a hurry...even with a loss vs Iowa as at this moment Iowa would be considered a bad loss.

One thing that I can tell you is that winning is contagious and also teaches these guys a) what it takes to win and b) the knowledge that they can overcome a deficit.

Get a serious home crowd behind this team and see what can happen. I'm certainly not predicting a 4-0 start to the conference, but if they could pull that off, who knows what is possible?

4-0 would be so awesome.

No one saw 2-0 coming, so hell yeah lets get to 4-0.

How do we match up against Iowa this year? They still have the height advantage or did they lose a couple tall guys?

I am probably wrong, but I seem to recall their tall guys kicking our butts last year.
