Nebraska returned everybody who was expected back for the first day of fall camp.

Husker baseball coach Darin Erstad, starting his sixth season, said he expects to have plenty of work to do with fairly fresh players.

Many Huskers, including Jake Meyers, who sparkled at pitcher and in right field, and Matt Waldron, were idle from baseball over the summer, as were teammates Jake Hohensee and Nate Fisher, both of whom missed last season after Tommy John surgeries.

The Huskers lost three-year starting center fielder Ryan Boldt to the Major League Baseball Draft and pitcher Garett King transferred. Elijay Dilday, who had medical problems, has popped up on the roster at Missouri State.

“We had a lot of people shut down over the summer and had a lot of our newcomers go through the Bridge Program to help them get accustomed to school, classes and the older players over this summer,” Erstad said.

Scott Schreiber completed physical therapy to recover from in-season injuries and pitcher Zach Engleken is likely out until March, while he recovers from a shoulder injury.

Former Husker Pat Kelly, who played for the Lincoln Saltdogs part of this season, has joined the staff as an undergraduate assistant coach.
