Let's talk about that safety Ark St got against the offense

I'm always a fan of the QB sneak when your pinned back on your own one. Can't recall ever seeing a QB sneak resulting in a safety. Either that or go deep like we did against Georgia in the Gator Bowl.
That is usually my thought process backed up like that. Of course, if you don't gain anything on the sneak, you are back to square one.

I think it was difficult block for everybody , but looks to me that David was supposed to cover the b gap , that was the blocking scheme , maybe because David was there could be that the reason the linebacker cut into the A gap ? Like somebody said before it was a lucky read from the linebacker and maybe Conrad could have doubled with tanner and then broke off to get the linebacker

The call is a bit cutesy for me at your own 1 yard line. Makes you wonder if this team no longer has iso in the playbook. If you're gonna call something fancier than a QB sneak or an iso in that situation then why not bomb a fade?

You gotta figure the defense is coming downhill with LBs, why make yourself more susceptible to getting your gaps shot?

The more I look at this I don't know why everybody is blaming David and tanner , the linebacker blitzed right where Conrad left to double teamed the dt

If you look at the play from the backside, you had a TE block the the DE, and the T move to double team the backside DT, the center went to double the playside DT. Unless there was something that triggered a line call to change protection, the center would never have seen the blitzing LB, that's not his responsibility. Since Knevel didn't immediately jump to the 2nd level, I would assume Farmer would have the responsibility of picking up blitz in that gap. Mostly because he crosses his face, he could disengage and attack the LB.

I would hope our O-line could get a decent push, at least against ASU. If not, we have bigger issues than our D.

I think that is correct and that is why I didn't like the call. You had the DT on Farmer's inside shoulder already expecting him to try to control that guy and keep him from gaining penetration to your left THEN you add in the responsibility of trying to reach a linebacker looping behind on a run blitz? As I posted earlier, there was virtually no way that Farmer could reasonably have been expected to see the blitzing linebacker while engaged with the DT quickly enough to stop the guy. You were gambling that he didn't do that OR if the line call necessitated him to try to beat the backer and Knevel to beat the DT to the point of attack, that's a crappy design IMO. I get that the intent was to hold the backer with the way you hand the ball off BUT they had probably watched that play 40 times on video of short yardage situations and knew it was a strong possibility of being the call.
