KSU News?

Why are all the great coaches so inept when it comes to this type of thing?

I think at its core everyone is selfish and the desire for him to try to give something to his son outweighs what’s right for KSU— see Bobby Knight

Yep!

Think about it...if you own a business you would want your kid to take over too...it is just how it is.

Bill Snyder will always have my respect for making college football's worst program into a national title contender. With that said, it's crazy to try to name his son as his successor. The guy might be a decent coach, but that is just crazy.

Except in Mancrappin', Kansas. I SAY GO WITH THE HEREDITARY MONARCHY!!! If it would work anywhere, it would be that crazy place.

That’s exactly what I’ve been telling my KSU friends. You wouldn’t believe the sxxt some KSU fans are talking on Snyder, Alzheimer’s, dementia, greedy, nepotism. For better or worse the KSU administration not Snyder will make the coaching decision. Last time it was worse.

I think it would be a great place for Craig Bohl, but I have heard Snyder keeps holding out so his son can get the job. I think that the AD has some sort of connection to Bohl IIRC.

Take it or Leavitt...that is what I always say.

Mine was much too long. Brevity is better with humor: "Only Leavitt knows whether Leavitt will take it or leave it."

I feel sorry for someone who never learned to retire. Hopefully he still has a long time left to enjoy his family, but when someone hangs on to work for so long I've often seen things go south.

I hate KSU after so many of their "fans" became total pric!s after the got good late in the 90's. That being said, t's going to get ugly for them. Snyder will want to give it to his son and the school will want them to do a search. I can see Snyder pulling a Bobby Knight and retiring a couple of games into the season next year, and then turning it over to his son thinking that will be the best chance to get him the job. A buddy in KC who follows KSU thinks that will happen as well.

Gene Taylor is a very good AD.

He has worked with Craig Bohl at North Dakota State, since he was AD there and hired, before heading to Iowa, as an Associate. He was named K-State AD in April 2017, so I think a lot of this is speculation, since one would think the AD would make the call more than what was decided ahead of him being hired?

Taylor was responsible for elevating North Dakota State to Division I, FCS in Football.

Jim Leavitt going there?

I think Leavitt will do a great job there. I may be a little old school because I believe his actions at USF did not warrant him being fired. Political correctness is a career killer. The Buffs are not nearly as good this year as they were with Leavitt as their DC. K-State brass just have grow some balls and tell Bill (who I have the utmost respect for) that the kid isn't getting the job.

Not always. A good friend of mine took a high paying job with a well known Nebraska contractor years ago. The job was always known to be short term, which was what my friend wanted given his career plans. His primary task was reorganizing the company administration, which was code for canning several family members -- including relatives of the owner's wife. It's called saving both the company and your marriage

Interesting...I heard a quote the other day that the AVERAGE aircraft worker in Wichita that retires lives less than 2 years beyond that...no verification, but kind of an odd stat.
Having said that, living amongst their fanbase has made it easy for me to root for their losses.

Oh, I agree...but like your post says...the owner/dad had to bring in an outsider to can his family...most people want their family to take over. It is a hard spot.

Maybe I can see the Snyder part a bit...I've been blessed to coach my teams for 40 years, and I have talked to ny administration positively several times about having SOME say in the replacement process and they have been (at least to my face) very agreeable...I know it is small potatoes AND it does not involve my kid, but without Snyder, they would STILL be rotting in mediocrity...

I'm surprised that Venables isn't their top choice - he played and coached at K-State under Snyder.
Now you've done It! I don't know if you have heard, but this stuff is super-serious business. No joking allowed.

Mediocrity??? They would kill for mediocrity without Snyder.
