Knighton Officially Out

No question we have lower expectations than they do.

Not necessarily lower expectations, we just play in a tougher conference. The B1G and SEC will continue to separate from the little 2 as time goes on. Due to weaker competition in the ACC, for White, it'll be a great place to elevate his stock.

A soft Pac 12 team just walked through a B1G schedule unbeaten

I don’t think the B1G is as tough as many want to believe

A new OC and WR coach. A new DC and DL coach. Maybe more coaching changes on the way. Tons of players leaving. Followed by a ton of new portal guys coming in. Going to be like a whole new team. My question is this: does this mean we are kind of back to square one and we should look at next season almost as if this is Rhule being granted a Mulligan and a whole new do-over, or is this next year a do or die year where Rhule has to have a really good season or he is out?

I hope it isn't Butler.... the recruits don't know unless it is Butler. Their tweets were encouraged to save face with the fans and recruits. They don't have a clue if it's an outside hire.
They’re the first to know who is hired in house or outside. You can’t be this thick

Year Three is the new Year One!

Rhule should’ve done this the moment he got here

Absolute bullshit how badly he pissed away the last two seasons

Next year is an 8 win year or the seat gets hot. No mulligans.

Could be that Knighton doesn't like the anxiety of waiting to see who Rhule hires and White sold him on being the #2 guy on his defensive staff.

I think that Simpson guy who coached in Miami went to FSU. Should try to bring him back and return the favor. Played for Rhule I beleive at temple.

Hell no, we were promised magic in Year 3.

There is a post in this very thread that he won’t be fired if we go 7-5 next year

The overwhelming sentiment will be 7>6 and the progress is evident
I’m sure he won’t be fired too if we win 7. But that doesn’t mean the heat won’t be on.

Your descriptions are a bit hyperbolic. They had a 1 point victory at home vs Ohio St, and a 3 point victory on the road at 5-7 Wisconsin. I wouldn't consider that walking through a Big Ten schedule.

A soft Pac 12 team went 12-0 in their first year playing a B1G schedule

Not great for The Narrative

Please tell me what Nebraska has accomplished in the last 20+ years, oh easy answer No Conference Championship, No BCS or CFP appearance. So before you call FSU a dumpster fire check your own house!
what is an acceptable record for FSU to have next year for there not to be a coaching change?

Do or die.

Touchy, are we? Why are you here, other than to troll. Good luck with Tony, Terrence and Evan. Move forward.

Looks like Nebraska is trying to work out a deal to bring in SMU DC coach Scott Symons as DC.This would be a great hire.
would be interesting hire. I've watched them with times they have only 1 or 2 guys with their hand in the dirt. lots of confusion up front to block and created a lot of sacks.

My gut feeling is he will get two more years at least, even if things go badly next year.

I think he has to win next year. With the money he's still owed from the NFL, his buyout doesn't change all that much from now until year 5. I think it's only a million or two per year until the Panther money disappears. Most of the buyout we would owe is in those last 4 years of his contract. I could be wrong but I don't think his buyout now is anywhere near the 58 million total value of his contract. It's still at least in the upper 30s but not 58 today IMO.

He's short on P4 experience and has never stayed long at any stop. Obviously he's WAY more qualified than Bo was when we hired him. There would be a steep learning curve for him in the B1G. I would prefer Robinson but Rhule is a defensive guy. He'll figure it out.

We have hit rock bottom. About 10 times.

Have made mediocre hires and shit poor hires. Fired 439 coaches. Hired one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to coach against and one of the biggest maniacs you'd ever coach against.

Put wideouts at the QB position. Put QB's at wideout.

Recruited several sons/brothers of highly regarded players due to their last nane who only served to be a massive distraction.

Won nothing of significance.

Managed to lose games in every way possible, and invent new ways of shooting ourselves in the leg in the 4th quarter of every close game, and, when that was not enough, invented new ways of blowing our own heads off during the game.

We had a center go MORE than a full season without being able to put a shotgun snap within the frame of a 6'2" QB and then were happy with the progress once that was finally corrected.

We allowed Harry Potter's weird grandpa to coach QB's here for 4 seasons.

We have gone at least 10 years during this stretch without even the slightest indication that we have ever held a special teams practice of any kind.

We have recruited players that our coach gave cute nicknames to that literally just disappeared after getting into legal trouble. Brought in 5 star players that got busted for robbery about 10 minutes after getting on campus. Brought in head case WR's that hung around the program for years and never saw the field.

We had a coach almost fistfight the conference over being limited in the number of games we were allowed to play during COVID, only to decline to play in a bowl game at the end of the season based on the recommendation of our warrior QB because the team was drained from playing an 8 game schedule.

And, through all that jackasserey, all the stupidity, all the things that couldn't even be listed here, things that had to be done intentionally because there is no other logical explanation for it .....
never once, through all of that, managed to shit the bed like you guys did this season.

Which wasn't a dumpster fire, it was a dumpster full of flaming shit going over Niagara falls.

Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, that could be. I wonder if Dannen is the sort of AD who will tell him the expectations before the year or stay silent. Having Trev instead of Dannen definitely inserts more uncertainty. In retrospect Rhule should have hired a Tony White-like OC outside his coaching tree from the beginning, and likely turned over the roster more immediately. He has a shorter runway now to remake this program into what he wants.

I am still chewing on the reasons for White leaving. Was their friction between he and Rhule? If so, about what? Bringing in Snow as an observer/consultant? And why did Rhule bring in Snow if he thought the defense was ok? Just to make Satterfield feel less singled out? I doubt that. Rhule must have not been entirely pleased with the defense, especially after the Indiana and UCLA debacles. Did Rhule actually want White gone?

Or maybe the reason is much simpler and less complicated. Maybe White and his family hated living in Nebraska and wanted to move to a warmer climate?

Will we ever know?
