I note that Pickering doesn't rate any stars and yet I have read that people at the kicking academies say he is one of the best in the country. Of all the positions on a football team, kicker ought to be the easiest and most accurate to rate. After all, a kicker really isn't competing against another player. He is just kicking the football, so distance, accuracy, hang time etc. are all easily measured. Finally, the kicking game is a critical success factor in the game. We have all heard coaches say the importance of winning all three phases of the game and Special Teams are one of those phases.
