And yet again, it boils down to two things that I am so tired of watching. It's like a freaking "B" movie that keeps making sequels that follow the same basic story line. You know the ending, you know the jokes, nothing is a surprise or really that compelling so therefore you don't feel all that much of an emotional attachment anymore.
1. I'm tired of NU's best players and supposed leaders wilting in the spotlight. Over the last decade, we've had brief flashes from guys in big moments (Suh, Lavonte, Burkhead, Ameer, etc) but the Huskers haven't had a jack-diesel play maker on their roster in forever who showed-up game-in/game-out and especially in the games that matter. It sucks watching a team that consistently doesn't have an alpha who gives you the confidence to believe in him as the competition level ratchets up throughout each season.
2. I'm tired of watching hobbled athletes, who aren't good enough throwers to even complete 50% of their passes against good competition, play QB for the Huskers. I LOVE the QB run game but for the last eight years the overall skill and ability, depth at the position and roster/supporting cast have really been a joke for a program with the aspirations NU supposedly sets forth each season. One tweaked ankle, hamstring, big toe,etc can pretty much derail the entire offense, the team and season (which we've had front row seats to annually for almost a decade). Seriously, how has that insanity been allowed to continue on from so many years in a row.
I'm past getting so worked-up while trying to find someone to blame. It doesn't matter anymore. I'm past making lists of what all needs fixed because the list isn't worth jack squat without first fixing #'s 1 and 2 above.
Get some studs on the roster who are going to be accountable for carrying the team when the lights are at their brightest and get a QB (or QB's) who can play-up to the better competition and more often than not can make the fundamental plays that are there for them to make. Do those two items an then we can talk about the laundry list of other things that need fixed (I'm looking at you special teams and line play).
Just a soft, uninspired, yet totally predictable outcome once again in a game that mattered. Man they made Iowa look like a play-off team.
Until we can take #1 and #2 off our list, all of the rest of the shit that needs fixing really don't matter all that much. Not worth dissecting or discussing.
JMO.
