“I spoke with a guy who knows Justin Kammrad (Lewis Central’s QB coach) pretty well, and it sounds like the most important factor for Max when ultimately deciding which school to enroll at will be the offensive style their coaches run.
By the sounds of it, based on what was told to me, I think Max truly does appreciate the “home state” offer, but there is no serious interest in enrolling at the University of Iowa - mainly due to the Pro Style system that Ferentz runs.
Obviously, this isn’t some big surprise, as he’s been quoted several times in interviews stating as much.. but after having this conversation with a friend of Kammrad’s, it’s pretty much a done deal that Iowa is out of the running here, although don’t expect a public acknowledgement to back that claim up, mostly out of respect between the Duggans and Iowa’s staff. He mentioned part of it had to do with their system, but also finishing 121st and 106th in offensive YPG totals over the last two seasons, with both Coach Davis and now junior Ferentz, didn’t exactly “wow” Max or Jim. Quite frankly, he thinks he needs better coaching than the Hawkeyes can offer.
I asked who he thought were the possible leaders in this recruitment, and he basically said he had no idea really and there wasn’t “one school that’s separated itself from the pack”, but mentioned Ohio State,Georgia and Nebraska. I know he also wants a “committable” offer from Notre Dame, which he does NOT have yet, so look out if they should offer Max.
Of course I asked about Nebraska, and he responded with the Duggan’s really like the system that Coach Frost operates on offense and feel it would be aexcellent fit. The proximity and tradition also stuck out, along with the unrivaled fan support. The sell out for the Spring Game in Lincoln came up, which Max will beattending.
So, FWIW that’s the latest. I’m sure I’ll be called and accused of being a troll, but when Max ultimately doesn’t sign with the Hawkeyes, just know it sounds like it will be based on the style of Ferentz’s offense, and not because Iowa wasn’t a prestigious enough program compared to his other offers. Don’t get too down on yourselves, guys.”
