I attended my first Florida State game last night and wanted to share some observations.
I, like all Huskers, have a long history with Florida State and respected Bobby Bowden so much. Tom Osborne and Bobby Bowden had a great relationship for being fierce competitors. So many great battles we had through the 80s and 90s. They were also my first Husker game in October of 1980.
Granted it was North Alabama (Ryan Held HC last year) and this game was sandwiched in between Miami and Florida games for FSU, but the game atmosphere, tailgating, vibe on campus cannot hold a candle to Lincoln! I just wasn’t sure what to expect! The Seminole fans were very cool and respectful of Nebraska as the four in my party wore their Husker gear!
I was sitting there thinking how much I’m going to enjoy watching them in the college football playoff assuming they win out and then Jordan Travis, their star quarterback, suffered a gruesome injury! And I am sure that derailed their potential!
I’m not sure if the north Alabama kid had intentions of hurting him, I don’t think so, but these hip tackles sure are dangerous in a perilous sport!
Jameis Winston was inducted into the Florida State ring of fame and number retired last night so that was pretty cool. Jordan Travis is so well liked and so respected that Winston wore Travis’s jersey the whole evening. When Jordan was injured, there was so much emotion in the crowd and the other players. It was easy to see how respected he was.
A really tough loss for Florida State and not that I am a big fan or anything, but I was going to root for them until Nebraska returns to being relevant! It wasn’t long ago they sucked like us!!
The Seminole on the horse at the beginning with the flaming spear is pretty cool and the tomahawk chop is pretty bad ass!
Just wanted to share some thoughts from my first visit to Doak Campbell Stadium and Jordan Travis injury!
