His show cause ends this year. Would have Nebraska winning the B1G West every year. I don't believe for a second he is content at running a 2nd rate University. Offer him enough $ and force him to at least seriously listen.

This is coming from an tOSU fan who finds it sad to see Nebraska drive itself into oblivion. Current recruits weren't alive to remember how dominant the Huskers were in the mid 90's. A few more years of this level of play and Nebraska becomes a modern day Minnesota, who actually was a dominant team in the 1950's even winning a title last in 1960.

We have fired our last 3 coaches, all have had winning records. That will sit in the minds of any coaches if Nebraska job were to come open.

Well he is someone who probably would take it if offered. But there's no way Eichorst would hire him.

Tressel !!! Has Nebraska become the school for old, over-the-hill coaches to come to so they can fill up their bank account before they retire. Let's go after Herman, Fuente or some other dynamic YOUNG coach.[/QUOTE]

You really how conservative of a coach he is correct? He had top shelf talent at OSU, and he was nowhere near as effective as Urban has been.

Tom Herman would be an outstanding hire. Many of us tOSU fans are hoping he come back when Urban retires. Tressel is a conservative coach, but he wins. He would not beat out tOSU for recruits in Ohio, but there are a lot of great recruits in Ohio and Urban has started recruiting much more nationally now. MSU is getting lots of great talent out of Ohio now; Tressel would land those recruits easily. His name still means a lot in Ohio.

Herman will get a better job than Nebraska. We missed our chance last year.

No. Go after someone young and enthusiastic like Memphis head coach

This. First person I would call. Pay good money and people will come. Their coaches, they think are good at what they do.

Yet we keep finding coaches to come here after we stupidly fire those coaches.

Herman will be the "hot" name this off season. I think USC will hire him, unless they opt to go for Whittingham. However, don't think its a slam dunk Whittingham would take the offer as it seems he wants to build something at Utah.

Yeah, OP picked the wrong ex buckeye coach. Another poster nailed it. Tom Herman would have been a terrific hire. That ship is sailed because someone good will hire him before the Nebraska job comes open. Definitely won't be this year.

Might as well get behind your coach...he will be here for awhile.

Agreed. That's why I hope to hell POB is the real deal.

IMHO, not going full bore after McElwain last year was a huge mistake. Fuentes has shown he can run a program. Herman is showing that now. Bob Diaco at UConn is impressing me right now. UCONN is playing good football.

Yes, Herman will be at USC next year.

Diaco won't take the Nebraska job.

His overall record is something like 24-20. If after next year we don't improve much, our new AD, Trev Alberts, will be happy to bring Frost in.

Eichorst more than likely made his last hire at Nebraska. If Riley and staff don't improve next year, the entire lot of them will follow Eichorst out the door.
I could only hope for Eichorst to leave. He is destroying Husker football single-handedly.

Naw, Osborne did that with Solich and Pelini.
Yea his hires won over 70 percent of their games. Eichorst and Pederson killed it with their great hires. It's funny how people like to call Osborne's hires complete failures. If you want to argue they couldn't make us elite, I can understand. But to make it out they were just horrible hires is stupid. If you need examples of horrible football hires look at the AD before and after Osborne.

I think people think to heavily on this, "no coach will come to a school that fires a winning coach" stuff. These guys are professionals. They know this business is demanding and if they don't produce they will be out. I can almost guarantee you throw 7 mill at Tressel he won't turn it down only because "Nebraska fans are to demanding" lol Money talks plain and simple.

If we fire abother coach, we won't have the $$$$ to pay anyone 7 mil.

I don't know the inner working of the UNL finances. Im guessing if booster want a guy gone enough they will find a way to come up with the money. Sell out streak is also a pretty motivating factor.

That's a downer. My big fear is that he is Iowa's next coach.

Dunno about that. I think given KF's ability to change his stripes a bit and if the season keeps up at an 11-1 or even 10-2 type pace, he could get an extension and the fans might be fully behind him once again. Then he tries to set it up for his son, Brian, to take over the OC role and eventually the HC role.

Quite true, but paying off two coaches at the same time would be a tough pill to swallow.

I don't know the inner working of UNL finances either, but I do know that the seat reduction in the stadium wasn't to make people "more comfortable". Sell out streak in trouble last year when donors were hesitant to pick up slack. I don't think this year has done anything to alleviate any concerns, but, what do I know.

To be honest Tressel was one of my top hopes for our coaching gig. And honestly i never would of thought Riley at OSU would of been our guy. When the AD said hed go all in and money wasnt an issue, i was fully expecting some big name hire. But we got Riley and as posters said above, hes not going anywhere this year, at least. So we might as well back him and our Huskers up, that's what us fans jobs our, to be there for our team, come sickness and in health...oh wait...think im mixing something up here. Either way, this is OUR HUSKERS. We are either fans or we are not. Lets do our part for the team, as we expect the AD and coaches to do there part for the team. Theres my cheer leader role. Lets get em boys. Lol

And Pederson was Osborne's boy. Everybody loved Pedey. Don't give me that crap. Solich had no business running this team. Period. My God, we had the top team in the nation and turned it over to that "little man" and I'm being kind with my comments. So don't tell me it lays at the feet of the AD before and after. Both Solich and Pelini were his choices. Why he would retain Pelini is unfathomable. Pelini was a crappy coach and a worse human being. LSU fans were filled with delight when we took him off their hands. Eichorst has made 1 pick who's only coached 7 games and inherited a crappy team with crappy attitudes. So you can take your adoration of Osborne and put it up there on the shelf along side all the trophies his coaching hires won.

Whoever followed Osborne was not going to keep up at his pace for various reasons. Osborne would not have kept winning like he did in his final 5 years if he had stayed. Husker fans can not rationalize this for some reason. Solich was a solid coach. He was not a horrible coach like many say. Pelini was also not a horrible coach. The record dictates this. If you want to say both were not good enough to make us elite, I can buy the argument, but Nebraska isn't the easiest place to win. We had two of the best coaches ever in a row with Devaney and Osborne. We got pretty lucky. We will be lucky to get back to being a top 25 to 30 team in the next 4 to 8 years with what we have now.

Maybe Osborne wouldn't have been able to keep winning, but Solich was a poor choice. He's still at Ohio and I think that says it all as far as his coaching acumen, not to mention his off the field issues. And how you think Pelini was a good coach is really puzzling. We were blown out by anyone that was decent. Ameer bailed us out time after time and when he went down with an injury last year, we were bad on both sides of the ball. If Pelini would've been a man of better character, he would still be coaching, regardless of his losses. Yes, we were very lucky to have Devaney and Osborne and most likely that will not be repeated. But, we haven't even been a good team for years. It would be nice just to see us at the end of the year in the top ten and maybe with a chance at a top tier bowl game. I'm not asking for elite status, just let us be good enough to contend for conference titles (and that doesn't mean getting blown out in the conference title game, that's not contending). It's been 15 years since we've seen a good team take the field and it's gotten worse with each hire. It may be too late, we may have screwed it up for good.
