How he didn't get any minutes against Northwestern boggles my mind.
X10000000How he didn't get any minutes against Northwestern boggles my mind.
He hasn't been playing well and was making too many mistakes on the defensive end. He was taking some bad shots and not hitting them. Great to see him and Jack turn things around offensively today. How he didn't get any minutes against Northwestern boggles my mind.
Sorry, but this is absolute crap. The "doesn't play good enough defense" excuse is absolutely laughable every minute that McVeigh plays. They both showed up today, thankfully. When people talk about Miles not coaching on a hot seat, not playing Horne in a game where he practiced poorly is exactly that. If he was sweating his job, he probably plays him. But sitting a guy after bad practice sets a longer term tone that he needs to establish.
Or Horne got the message and practiced better. We can all speculate.Sorry, but this is absolute crap. The "doesn't play good enough defense" excuse is absolutely laughable every minute that McVeigh plays. They both showed up today, thankfully.
Looks to me like someone in charge told Miles to cut the shit.
In the 2 light practices since the last game???Or Horne got the message and practiced better. We can all speculate.
Unless you were at practice or know something I don't, we are both speculating. I'm going to go with what the coach said about a bad week of practice. Maybe it was discipline for something he wanted to keep quiet. We just don't know but to think Miles simply didn't play him because doesn't make any sense. In the 2 light practices since the last game???
Ummmm, not sure I see that. That is zero minutes Thursday. ZERO.

Did you watch him the game before Northwestern? He was not good. I don't think practice had as much to do with as what he was doing during games. In the 2 light practices since the last game???

Yes. Never did. You are so right. Your knowledge is once again absolutely staggering. That's because you never made you're basketball team...
Why does that matter? McVeigh would never see the floor if that was the standard.Did you watch him the game before Northwestern? He was not good. I don't think practice had as much to do with as what he was doing during games.
I never once stated it was because of practice. I watched him stink it up for several games before Northwestern. McVeigh started out getting a few minutes here and there and has been playing well enough to earn more time. Horne came in today and hit his first few shots and didn't screw up on D. Thus he got more time. You have to earn your minutes with Miles. Why does that matter? McVeigh would never see the floor if that was the standard.
But wait, I thought you guys said this was because of practice?
I agree, but Miles can't use the "defense" excuse and keep McVeigh on the floor. That is what I hate. Hell, if defense gets you minutes, Webster would be on the bench.I never once stated it was because of practice. I watched him stink it up for several games before Northwestern. I hate the "act" that Miles has. Sure, everyone wants to play great defense. But don't single out your players and have a clear double standard.
A simple "he is not playing because he is struggling, and we are working to get him back to the level we need him to be to help his team" goes a hell of a longer way than the stupid message he portrays through the media.
Ugh? Webster is our best defensive player.
No no no no no. No. NoooooopeUgh? Webster is our best defensive player.

Ok then... back to square one. ZERO minutes Thursday. Played well today when he got his chance. Maybe there are deeper reasons, but it is obviously more than just a little practice issueMiles didn't use "defense excuse" for not playing Horne. Here is his direct quote after the Northwestern game.
“It was really practice stuff,” Miles said. “I told Jeriah afterward that was the deal.”
Why is it so obvious to you?Ok then... back to square one. ZERO minutes Thursday. Played well today when he got his chance. Maybe there are deeper reasons, but it is obviously more than just a little practice issue
Because the guy obviously holds the kid to a higher standard than his teammates during games. I have noticed it from the beginning of the year. From every indication this team is very tight. Seems very questionable why there seems to be a need to have double standards. Why is it so obvious to you?
Is it not possible he blew off practice, mailed it in, etc and coach sent a message which was received?
I don't get why you're so sure based on your gut vs what the coach said.
We know Miles is always right in your mind. And I don't think he should be fired. But he is starting to remind me of Sadler in his player management style. Why is it so obvious to you?

So what's the alternative? If Miles stated reason is BS, do you think he simply forgot about Horne? We know Miles is always right in your mind. And I don't think he should be fired. But he is starting to remind me of Sadler in his player management style.
Again. He played badly IMO in the last few games before Northwestern. IF he had been lighting it up in the games leading up to Northwestern but had practiced poorly, I guarantee you he would have played against Northwestern. We have no idea for sure what the deal was. Saying he practiced poorly may be just a cover without getting in to details that make the kid look bad or hurt his confidence. Don't assume the worst without having the details.Ok then... back to square one. ZERO minutes Thursday. Played well today when he got his chance. Sorry, but I don't like singling a player out on a basketball team. I am probably going overboard, but that is very Sadler-esque. I like this core, and think that when they all (hopefully) get healthy there will be a high ceiling. Maybe even (gasp!) a big-boy tourney win.Again. Hell he knows he played badly and I didn't bash him at the time. He knew he had to play better. Call it singling him out but damn it don't blame Miles for not playing him then. You wanted a reason. You got it. Miles was too nice to say that he had played like crap for 2 weeks. He rebounded nicely with a great game offensively. That's all you can ask.Sorry, but I don't like singling a player out on a basketball team. I am probably going overboard, but that is very Sadler-esque. Then I will again be in favor of building a 200 foot statue of Timmy dunking a basketball into that God-awful "sculpture" in front of PBA.
Oh my, by any standard, that is not his strength.
How many points did Jok score against us again? 34? Dude was unconscious for most of the game.Wrong, why did Miles put him on Jok from Iowa? Because Miles considers him our best defender at the guard position.

Nope. That doesn't change the fact Miles thinks, and I agree, he is our best defender at the guard position.
Nope.
