Jeremy Pruitt sues NCAA for $100 million

I don't think it's the "paying players" that's ruining college football. It's the "players can leave after 1 year without sitting" that's ruining college football.
Yep I agree the transfer portal is doing way way harm to CFB Hopefully revenue sharing will ease it a little as players will likely have to sign multi year contracts.

There will be no multi year contracts without a union

And with a union, the ncaa goes bye bye for good

Next to go are the useless, zero value adding conferences

Soon we will have the college football we know and love back and better than ever - 68 FBS programs playing regional schedules with a champion decided by way of a 16-team playoff in a single unified league working directly with broadcasting partners

In the meantime, I'm rubbing my hands together like Mr. Burns, just waiting for some billionaire booster at a school to successfully hire every all-american with eligibility left. You know, basically the LA Dodgers of college football. What would the starting offense for a school look like if you said money was no object and you just hired the best player at every position?? Why does Buffett refuse to make this happen??

There were multi year scholarships awarded without them forming a union.

You know it was a joke, right? I'm not really over here emulating Mr. Burns? Maybe you actually ARE Warren Buffett? Your very serious reply to a joke kinda checks out with his refusal to do anything fun with his money..... Warren - is that you?
He may not do anything fun with his money, but he certainly made a bunch of us a lot of money that was used for fun stuff. I bet a bunch of berk money flows indirectly to the athletic department. Some of those old timers have or will be passing their berk shares on to heirs and I bet some of that ends up as donations.

There’s a rule against “outing” posters, ya know.

did players require an agent do negotiate those?

did players pay taxes on those?

a pay for play contract is much different. obviously.
They have all of those now with NIL and the soon to be coming revenue sharing, still no union. A 1, 2, or 3 year contract does not necessarily require this to be a pay for play. It is no different than the old rules that would require a player to sit out a year before they could transfer, which would effectively limit the amount of times they could transfer. Again, all of these changes of been implemented without the players forming any unions.

there are no multi-year NIL contracts today.

those old rules, you surely recall, were overturned in US Court. such would be the fate of any copycat rules to follow.

I think where the union might come in is when the majority of players decide they're tired of the shit show. The top players will never want any guardrails on transfers or pay, but the vast majority of players will eventually decide this chaos sucks. I have no idea how that will happen in reality, but we're quickly getting to the point where about 20 (fewer?) schools and 10% of players will be all that matters in this sport.

Agree 1000% ...this is going to he very interesting to watch unfold.

Sure there are. Agents are negotiating them with big businesses these days. There are stipulations that state that they need to be currently enrolled at the school, and that they meet the requirements of the deals.
not with collectives.

100 million will buy a lot of asparagus

Never heard of asparagus? How is that possible? I would have to really question the intelligence of someone 40 years old that doesn’t know what asparagus is. Guy sounds like a complete dumbass in that short clip.

Also this should really shut the SEC white knighters up. Probably won’t but it should. How many times have we heard the sycophants say… “Everyone is paying players under the table. The SEC is no different than any other conference.” or some bullshit like that. The whole conference, and especially the top programs, have been cheating on a level that far exceeds anything else nation wide and they been doing it for a long time.

How intelligent can he be that he actually thinks the NCAA conspired with Tennessee to get him fired.

And the plot thinkens… I’m guessing this legal measure was passed to specifically counter the impending decision to move towards revenue sharing (roughly $21 million dollar pool for each school) and away from unregulated NIL deals?

If this state law ends up having legal standing and precedent, then every state with a major D1 program will fallow suit I’m guessing. And then ultimately not changing anything (regulation wise) for NIL. Infact, players can potentially make even more money. Nothing changes for NIL and now the school is required by law to share $21 million of their revenue with the players. We just added $21 million of available funds for the players without touching or changing NIL whatsoever.

I think everyone wants sensible regulation and universal standards for NIL, but this is not the direction I was hoping for. If I’m understanding this all correctly.
