When you look at who transferred out the last couple of years and see what happened to them, one would think kids would start to realize the grass is not greener for the majority of those that transferred.

K Dylan - no school listed
Cox - no school listed
Stalbird - South dakota state - has not seen the field
Moses Bryant - no school listed
Tony butler - kent state - only played in 4 games for 15 tackles
vedral - rutgers, 1,253 yards passing
chase - portland state - no season
jaiden francois - didn't see the field after a season at UCF
Forbes - Montana - no season
legrone - no school listed
bradly - no school listed
washington - no school liste
hunt - no school listed

woodyard - marshall - 1catch
miles jones - TN - never saw the field
mcquitty - south dakota - no season

jd - tcu - only played in 3 games for 5 catches - no post season invite to anywhere. He claimed to leave to do what is best for his career as a football player. That career appears to be over.
henry gray - fiu - didn't see the field in 2020
paup - no school listed
jefferson - no school listed

So, the 2020 departures

- 1 basically ruined his football career going to TCU
- 15 didn't have a season in 2020 or didn't find a school (that is publicly found)
- some might see the field at their current schools in the future, but impact at any of the schools if they were illegible.

Cole - south dakota state - 1 field goal.
caleb - oregon state - 26 punts after two seasons
smith - no school listed
cam - smu - 14 tackles after 2 seasons
thomas - colorado - has not seen the field
dixon- no school listed
gebbia - was back up for most games but may start this year
bell - had about500 yards rushing
tyjon - only 29 catches after two seasons
roberts - 152 tackles in his college career

When you go through the 2019 departures, you can see that Gebbia will have become the possible starter at Oregon state, roberts plays but nobody else that left would have made any difference in Nebraska winning games.

The main take aways, would have been nice if Gebbia stayed for depth and spot play, if roberts would have put in the work he might have seen some playing time at Nebraska, but other than that we got to see JD ruin his career, and have to replace the freshman DB's that left.

It's too early to do an analysis on the 2021 departures, but even some of them are not having schools call them - example is Warner where no school is showing interest yet. Haven't heard anything on McCafrey either yet.

How can I take your data seriously when Gebbia started and beat Oregon (back-to-back Pac 12 champs)? That was widely posted about on this board when it happened.

You seem to think Spielman's career is over. Do you have information that he won't go back to TCU for another season?

I could be wrong but I think Gebbia got knocked out of the Oregon game and his replacement had the game winning drive?
Gebbia's backup scored the winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak on 4th down with about 30 seconds left after Gebbia hurt his hamstring trying to score on a quarterback sneak on third down with less than 1 yard to go for a touchdown. So not really a winning drive.

You're right. I just looked it up. Gebbia was 23/37 for about 260 yards and 1 TD. He was helped a bunch by over 250 yards rushing from his RB. I think I was thinking about a different game than this one. That was his best game he's played there. Of course we have to realize how mediocre Oregon was considering what happened to them in their bowl game. ISU beat them 34 to 17 and that game wasn't that close. ISU destroyed the Ducks.

In general the odds of having a successful career after entering the portal from any school are not very good. A number of kids don't find another scholarship. Many of those that do are busts. So for every major success story like Justin Fields there probably are 5 or more flame outs.

Good work. JD was so dumb. He really pooped the bed.

jaiden francois - didn't see the field after a season at UCF

UCF fan here. Francois didn't see the field because Frost didn't release him. It's still TBD whether he'll be successful or a bust. He absolutely would have gotten playing time based on how depleted and awful our defense was this season.

Why didn’t frost release him?

Is UCF losing any players to the transfer portal? I wonder if some will follow Heupel to Tennessee?

Some kids you listed were walkons who were looking for scholarships at smaller schools like Stahlbird. Most kids listed were basically trouble makers who thought the grass would be greener but it wasn’t (Washington, Bradley, McQuity, Hunt, LeGrone) Others werent going to start so they bolted (Gebbia Vedral, Roberts)

The portal is a horrible idea!

Moses Bryant is at Iowa Western and will be playing this spring. Sounds like he will be playing a significant roll at RB from what I have heard.

Criticizing a coach is acceptable. Doing it with every post seems a little much. Almost trolly even... you do know what the word overkill is, I assume?
It’s the same 3 people complaining about it. You can at least see both sides a little. I’ll give you that. Sure it’s overkill. I actually want frost to succeed but he won’t change until he is uncomfortable which I think moos has made him a bit.

Well we do agree here... I would love to see more of a power run game base with the finesse stuff still available on occasion to catch the other team off guard.

How so? He was a key ST player. Do you think they should have put him in scholarship?
I do, actually. Played well as a Freshman and a scholly woulda been better served there as opposed to Henry Gray and the Florida gambles. I also think Stahlbird is would be our 4th best safety ahead of Pola-Gates

I can see that. Hated to see him go. Typically they usually wait to give out scholarships until guys crack the two deep, but I would have been OK with him getting one.

Might indicate that the kids we recuited were not any good to begin with?

Might indicate that the kids we recuited were not any good to begin with?

Some truth to that but when you have brought in over 100 players in 3 classes you are going to have many that leave or some guys that you find out right away that they aren't any good. When you go back to those that left from the 2018 class, I give them a pass on all of those.

Roberts always had some talent but was lazy. Getting kicked off the team was probably a wake up call for him. Gebbia is appearing to be the one that will go to the P5 level and win out a position battle at the skill spot. Tyjon and other skill guys haven't done much of anything. Vedral wanted to get a shot at starting and but even for him his performance was actually statistically worse at Rutgers than it was at Nebraska.

The Bell, Woodyard, Jones and that group turned out to be below average in ability.

What has me excited though is that we have young guys making ome headway in the 2019 and 2020 classes and more than half of the 2021 class is already on campus (new freshman). We will be able to find out before the 2021 season even starts if any of them don't have what it takes.

The less Nebraska avoids Miami and flaky kids from 1k miles away the better. If a kid 1k miles away doesn't have the balls to go public with a commitment and goes the silent commit route, then pull the scholarship.

doing a better job of bringing in the right type of profiles is what will make the difference, not just going after fast kids like they did when they first arrived.

You can tell the staff has already shifted the types of kids they are recruiting and pushing a lot harder in the Midwest, hawaii, NJ, Texas, and Georgia.

Gebbia isn't a shoe in as a starter yet. Started some games though. When you look at his stats from the 2020 season, his longest run was 13 yards and after two seasons at Oregon state he has amazed a total of 29 yards rushing. That wouldn't work for Frost's offense. His value would have been as a backup and for spot play and start a game or two due to injuries.

They need to hit Texas, New Jersey, Arizona and Georgia hard. It would be good if they could make some inroads into Missouri too.

I actually think gebbia would have worked fine in frosts offense it’s supposed to be more throwing than running especially in the quarterback position, the biggest mistake frost made imo was he should have named gebbia the starter instead of Adrian but then maybe Adrian would have left. Gebbia biggest problem was he wasn’t big enough to withstand the weekly beating from the big 10 defense

BS. A player does not need a "release" to play at the next school. That is the whole purpose of the transfer portal. Coaches can no longer hold kids hostage. Explain your statement regarding a release.

Absolutely! If we ever return to a winning program we simply MUST be able to run the damn ball. Cutting down our endless horizontal passes would help too imo.
