Took the greyhounds up to the family farm last week in conjunction with the NU spring game. Here they are at sunset, looking down on the cattle and mules (Ruckus is absolutely fascinated with the mules):
Embarrassed to admit this...when my mom started buying farms in the 1980s, I seriously thought that she had lost her mind. I grew up in Ponca Hills and the thought of my mom raising cattle in the middle of Bum****, Iowa seemed so "square" and bizarre to me. I was 169% convinced that she'd lose her ass raising cattle (she owned a beauty salon in Omaha and had zero experience on a farm).
Fast forward 30 years...visiting those same farms is my favorite activity in the world. So peaceful and relaxing. Feels like I'm walking on hallowed ground. And the dogs love it up there - several rabbits (real ones, not the mechanical ones at the track) to chase through the pastures.
Neither one wanted to leave when it was time to drive back to Memphis.
