Is there a new NCAA rule that new coaches can turn over roster?

I thought I saw somewhere on a message board that a new coach has more flexibility to purge his roster/cut dead weight. Is this true or just someone trolling a thread.

Not any rule to allow this. (That I know of) It's just that the new coach can (and will) let many of the players know that they don't fit his system and they probably will never play. This nudges most out the door without actually cutting them. Heck, some SEC teams purge their roster/cut dead weight every year.

I thought the NCAA was a little more relaxed about the transfer rule and immediate eligibility when there was a coaching change, but I could be wrong.

They have seemingly softened if the player does not fit the new "system", but as has been stated here (and everywhere a Husker fan gives an opinion) thousands of times, a good coach will fit his system to his current players. The Nebraska way would not be to run off players, but having flexible coaches that can make their system work to fit them.

Maybe it's just your wording/semantics but what you are suggesting is quite the slippery slope. A new staff, especially when bringing in a radically different system, who changes their system to fit players they probably wouldn't have recruited might eek out a couple more wins early but in the long run is stunting the growth of his team...it's increases the length of the learning curve and even creates the potential of losing the team in the long run as they struggle trying to learn too much...almost like an annual reboot as the roster changes.

Now, as I said it could a matter of semantics...a good staff can emphasize parts of their system/playbook that better utilizes the talent at hand...for example there might be certain packages they'd prefer to only use 10% of the time but use them (short term) 40-50% of the time to fit personell. But that is a change in play calling not system and you likely have some players that don't fit anything in your new system.

You are going to have attrition...it's coming and not all will happen over night...the cycle takes about 12-18 from what I have seen. However, you will likely hear things like Frost was honest with the kid, he gave him the option to stay, he even helped him find another school, etc. And all those stories you'll hear about how the staff was straight forward with the kid will likely be true...but trust me...fans from other schools will claim it is "running off kids"...it's what haters on message boards do...but 4 out of 5 times this stuff is not nearly as devious as people make it out to be.

Nobody seems to trash Alabama they do it all the time if they don't pan out by there sophomore year they supposedly find another school for them
