Hear me out.
I understand Bob and Tom are leaps and bounds ahead of Mike. Bob laid the groundwork and won and Tom carried on the legacy and won even more.
Those two men are the Greatest Nebraska Coaches in our History and its a 1A and 1B scenario.
We have been a footnote in CFB ever since those damn Buffs rolled over us back in 01. Sure we went to the National Title Game but we all know... we shouldn't really have been there.
Ever since it has been an up and down roller coaster and the game we love to watch has evolved while we have tried to keep up with the times, other teams have caught up and others flat out ran past us.
We tried to " modernize " our Program with Billy C, we tried to bring back some fire with Bo P and neither of them could capture the success we once had.
One flat out failed and the other IMO let the pressure of the job become too much and he ended up over his head.
Mike comes in with a reputation of being a level headed nice guy ( Very T.O. like in that regard ) respected by his peers and CFB analysts such as Kirk H and others.
He inherits a Program on the verge of being forgotten and or being brought back to the forefront. We have had success consistently as we all know and at the same time have had historic beat downs.
I believe Mike's tenure is one that can set our course on the correct heading again and bring us back to where we once were. A Program that helped shape the modern game and made other Programs change how they did things.
If Mike wins.. and wins big it won't take long to get back to the summit.
If Mike loses.. it may take a miracle to achieve any measure of success again. Well not a miracle but it wont be anytime soon.
IMO.
