Is Iowa a rivalry game against Nebraska?

Iowa is seeking to go 8-0 for only second time in Big Ten and seeking only 2nd win over Nebraska as conference mates.

In 2002, they defeated Minnesota to close out an 8-0 Big Ten season. It will be a bigger game in 2015, if Iowa can close out a 8-0 season again.

They have Purdue first on senior day at Kinnick Stadium.

1981 was the biggest Iowa over Nebraska game. This season is resembling my days watching Dr. Tom seeking to finish undefeated.

Clemson took down the Huskers.

The first Kirk Ferentz vs. Mike Riley game will be huge, with a lot on the line for both teams, certainly more for Iowa.

peace

I believe it will start to become one. Like other neighboring states people from both fan bases work amongst each other and that is how many rivalries can begin or become.

The first 4 games not much was on the line between the two schools this year is a different story. Nebraska can't stop Iowa from winning the division and playing for the conference CG if they beat Purdue, but Nebraska could knock off Iowa from playing in the football playoffs and ruin their unbeaten season. Iowa wants to also make Nebraska have a very seldom seen losing season by beating Nebraska in their home stadium.

Iowa has a lot to lose. if we beat them, Im sure they will consider it a rivalry. I guess when we have a lot to lose and they beat us the same will happen.
it will take some time, and some bitter defeats on both side with high stakes to be a real good rivalry.

Going for two in a row ... wins at Lincoln. It would be third win in series in modern era.

Nebraska has found themselves after five losses by 23 points.

Iowa should be their most hated rival ... Purdue, in the Battle of Black & Gold.

Who wins the Big 12 ... despite loss to rival Texas, Oklahoma appears to have found the compass again ...

peace

Bingo.... Just to bad the Trophy could mean something else other than a hero game that was manufactured by the conference.

The trophy looks pretty close to the Big 8 trophies we use to win in that conference.Silver football with a larger base to put past scores on the Big 8's use to be a gold football but they look pretty close to being identical.

What is the modern ERA?

What is the modern ERA?
For Iowa the modern era most likely was when Fry became Head Coach...

Modern era for myself would be the 1964 season when Unlimited substation was restored, and platooning becomes the accepted mode of play Came about.

' Rivalry game whatever man ... hell these idiots give me extensions and millions for 6-6 seasons , I'm going for millions more and another 10 years after this fluke season ... sharing it with the Big 10 scheduler , thanks man ... rivalry LOL who cares sheeeeet, they all pay win or lose here '

Rivalries are built brick by brick over many years, not declared overnight by the B1G. But the bricks that build the rivalry are made of disappointment inflicted by one side to the other. When each side has enough bad taste in their mouth, then you have a rivalry.

Iowa is not yet a rival, but we should get another brick.

This year would be a pretty huge brick for both programs even though records are in opposite directions.

I agree it will be a big brick regardless of outcome. We can ruin Iowa's perfect season and playoff hopes. They can hand us a rare losing season and no bowl game. One side is going to be more disappointed/upset than normal.

Record is pretty irrelevant. Popular emotion is the determining factor of a rivalry. I was always happy that the last Minnesota game I went to as an undergrad in Mpls was a win over Iowa. Not that it mattered in the big picture, but just because... That was a lot more of a rivalry.

Ok then. How about we're a Blueblood and Iowa is a nice little team from Iowa. A few step above Iowa State in the college football world.

29-13-3 series record doesn't sound like a rivalry.

Go look up Michigan and Minnesota series and that is a rivalry.

Again we are new to the conference in time this will be a rivalry which is built on upsets and one program denying the other of a division title or us denying them being in the College football playoffs.

More like 5-1 since Ferentz been their Head Coach.

Minnesota has multiple National Championships that they've earned. It's their history. Iowa has a pretty good season going right now. That undeniable. But that doesn't make them our rivial.

You don't know the term of blue blood.... Blue blood is over history ( look where Iowa is in history first before you go there) not when Ferentz became head Coach at Iowa which wouldn't make Iowa a blue blood anyway

Exactly scarlet. This what Hawkeye fan can't understand. Nebraska IS college football royalty. There are only a handful of Bluebloods but Nebraska is one of them.

You absolutely were a blue blood. No arguments there. I just disagree that you still are. Will be tough to get back to that level. Doesn't mean you won't. The further you get from 2001 the tougher it gets in my opinion. I never said Iowa is anywhere near being a blue blood.

It's about history not your eight 10+ winning seasons in school history.
Ask yourself how many 10+ seasons Nebraska has all time?

I know Iowa only focuses on what Nebraska has done lately over the last 15 years which we have won as many games as Iowa has during our downward spiral.

I never said Iowa's history anywhere resembles the Huskers history. I am not delusional. I just disagreed about the fact you still call yourselves blue bloods. Call yourselves whatever you want I guess. Time will tell if you return to elite status. In your opinion how much longer with similar results of the past 15 years until you aren't blue bloods?

I realize Iowa been in the top 10 including this year 5 times since 2000 and Nebraska been in the top10 only once but what about the the other years in between 2000-2015?

Nebraska 136-70
Iowa 124-75

Not sure why you care so damned much. You guys are having a great season. Why not enjoy that and stop concerning yourself with anything we do. It detracts from what you guys have achieved this year.

Obviously the gophers have great history but haven't won a conference championship I believe since 67. Are they still a blue blood then?
Minnesota is 42 in all- time winning pct Iowa is 60th..

Does that help you out either way.

Blue bloods are top10 all- time.

I guess fans have to decide which is more important higher highs with lower lows or more consistent success without the peaks and valleys. To be honest, I am not sure where I fall there. With Iowa's historical lack of consistent winning seasons I would be pretty darn happy with 9 or 10 win seasons most of the time but having seasons like this one is pretty euphoric.
