iPhone 6+ vs Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge question

I currently sport the iPhone 6+ and have generally loved it. Recently, it has become extremely difficult to hear out of the ear piece, to the point where I have to take most calls on speakerphone. I could send it in to Apple to have repaired for $300 but that just doesn't sound very smart. I am on the Verizon Edge plan so I can upgrade or I can outright buy the phone for $200.

Question I have: Really liking the looks and specs of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but haven't owned a Droid since the original Motorola Droid. Have a lot of stuff synced with iOS (MacBook Air, Time Capsule, iPad, iTunes, iPhoto, etc...) so staying with what I know, is really the way I'm leaning.

So that said, do I
A) keep my current iPhone as is and upgrade to the 7 when it comes out in September
B) upgrade to a iPhone 6S+
C) say F it and get the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

I'm in pretty much the same boat and I think I'm gonna switch to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Not too keen on the VR headsets out now, but there's a special where you get a free headset when the get the S7, plus it's much more durable than an iPhone

just an opinion, Android is the future.. Apple has been falling behind for awhile now with iOS.

This is also true of the desktop operating systems, and after almost 9 years on Apple's system, I'm likely switching back to Windows.

Getting out of that eco system isn't easy though :)

Something to try before going too far....You said you are having trouble hearing out of the earpiece. Someone in my office had the same issue so we took the phone to the Apple Store where they restored the audio in the earpiece.

This is how they did it.....

Get a toothbrush (it must be completely dry) and gently brush the earpiece (you can also do this with the microphone and speaker too). Once you've done that used some canned air and blow out whatever residue there may be. It worked and they can hear audio via the earpiece just like new.

In the interim I would wait until the next version of the iPhone comes out then make your decision. You can also pay off that phone in full before the new iPhone comes out and then take that phone to the Apple Store and trade it in (recycle) getting a credit towards, and reducing the price of your new iPhone if that's the way you choose to go.

Keep your phone and upgrade to a new 7 this fall. I don't miss the mountains of issues I had before our family switched to all Apple products.

From a big picture standpoint Apple provides excellent hardware at a price and sells integration, but their software is extremely defensive (Google maps vs Apple's, OK Google versus Siri) and will become more so as Android resources are massive in comparison.

The number one feature that smart phone users want is multi-day battery life, wireless charging, shatter/water proof. Long term a Steve Jobless Apple is fighting a losing battle by trying to control too much rather than leverage massive external resources - much like AOL attempted to do early on.

I love Mac computers. They are by far the best. I have owned an Iphone and i currently own a samsung galaxy note 4. Go with the Samsung galaxy edge 7 without any question. It is the best phone on the market. I will be upgrading to the note 6 in August when it comes out. Android phones are so far ahead of the iphone its crazy. Again, I am a huge Mac book fan and love all mac computers but their phones have lost what they once were. I can download any song for free, any movie for free, and set up my phone to my liking. Samsung has proven in the last 3 years to be the king of the cell phone.

I have had the Galaxy 1, 3, 4, and now 6. Have never felt ANY reason to switch to Apple and will be upgrading to the S7 soon.

I don't know how the battery life of the S7 compares to the S6, but the S6 is less than optimal. I can run out of battery life well before the end of the day if I'm pretty busy on the phone during the day. LG's battery life is far superior to Samsung.

I dropped the S6 on carpet once and it cracked the screen, which I never had happen with an LG phone. Otherwise the S6 is a good phone, with more brilliant color to the screen.

The thing I can't stand about the iPhone is that in a couple of cases, I can't understand the person I am talking to when they are on their iPhone. The voice mic on the 6 sounds really muffled. It drives me crazy when I'm on a conference call with these people. I want to punch them for not replacing their garbage phones, because I constantly have to tell them to repeat everything they just said.

I had much of the same experience with the S6 when it comes to battery life. I enjoyed everything else about the phone but the battery life was a big issue and was why I paid to upgrade to the S7 Edge. The battery life on the S7 and S7 Edge (have both, one is a work phone) are definitely improved relative to the S6. However, it has not been as good once the most recent software update happened, I don't know why that is but it happened on both.

As for the original poster, the big decision probably needs to be do you actually want to use the Edge or are you getting it primarily because it's the larger phone? If it's for screen size, the Note 6/7 is probably going to be bigger than the S7 Edge. I assume it'll be water resistant as well and hopefully have the microSD card support too. With that being said, the S7 Edge is the best phone I've owned and I'm not in any sort of hurry to upgrade.

Thanks for the info. Do you know of the differences between the S7 and the S7 Edge, or are they essentially the same phone aside from the curved screen?

The S7 Edge is a little bigger than the regular S7 (5.5 inch vs 5.1 inch) and S7 Edge has bigger battery (3600 mAh vs 3000 mAh). There are also some special features for the Edge screen, but I'm not real sure what those are since I don't have one.

Edge has a longer battery life 3600 I believe. All Samsung phones (starting with S7 & S7 Edge) going forward will have SD card and water resistant. The Note 6 coming out in August will have a 4200 battery life. Love the notes but they are retailing around $1200 where the edge now is around $800. You can buy a good mac book pro with retina display for that. I always wait and save.
You can't go wrong with the Edge!

Bye-bye sucka!

I always thought those paying twice the amount for a machine that has less performance were the suckers. Whenever I get on a Mac, I feel like I've been teleported to 1998. But hey, something has catapulted them to that massive 7% market share. Winking
