Football Iowa players motivated by pregame antics from Nebraska

I did nothing to shut us up. So they can act like they did something to us, but they didn’t. One big long runs the only thing that they did yesterday other than that everything that happen we did to ourselves.

What a clown. Motivated you to what? Play like ass the whole game and have Nebraska hand it to you? Those speds will latch on to anything.

The lack of handshaking isn’t that big of a deal for me. It’s more that I would prefer that our dominant play does most of the shit talking.

Even Rhule said, “ruin their season then go shake their hands.” I think that was from the Colorado game Chasing 3. I guess I just don’t care how much we don’t like Iowa, it’s better, to me, to shake their hands then go kick their asses.

Even if we walked away with the win, it’s a silly move

At what point did it motivate Iowa? They were dominated on both sides of the ball. Nebraska beat itself, as is usually the case.

I get it. Bush league stuff from Nebraska. But, Iowa puffing out their chests as if a pre-game snub lit a fire under them.

If that's how Iowa plays when motivated, they need a serious infusion of talent.

This prayer meeting at mid field has become a reoccurring problem. Time to try something different. Quit giving the opposing team more motivation. Pray in the corner of your own endzone like any good Christian would do.

They can stuff their motivation in a sack. They played like a bag of wet farts and still won. They should consider themselves lucky.

A couple of things

Maybe the Nebraska football team
Doesn’t respect or like Iowa or their players.
You have to respect the game .
That means shaking hands before and after.
It’s classless to act like that.

Very disheartening to find this out because that was always something that other teams recognized about Nebraska
What does respecting the game have to do with not shaking hands with people who have constantly disrespected you the past six years?

Go pray in the corner and not on their Logo
Why we should we have to move it? It was our time on the field. Let us have it. We were planting a flag or any to them. I don’t know know what teams do during their warm ups. Because it’s not important just like our prayer.

Biggest non-story.

Notably missing from all these stories is context of the Iowa conduct from prior to yesterday/or the unsportsmanlike conduct of Higgins after the game.

I like that there is juice between the schools. My hate for Iowa is starting to approach my hate for Mizzou, Kansas State, Colorado, and Oklahoma

Maybe it’s time Nebraska and Rhule just stop doing it on the other teams logo. I’ve always been taught anyway that a person who prays to get attention is not being authentic anyway.
Matthew 6:5

And, as to shaking hands, act likel ka grownup, and a sportsman.

Remember the Husker Creed.

I appreciate the effort that went into writing this story but if Nebraska hadn't been anywhere near midfield, the captains had personally hugged every Iowa player before kickoff, and brought leftovers from the team Thanksgiving meal to share, Iowa still would have found some way to be slighted by something a player or coach said weeks ago that wasn't in any way about them but could still be twisted around in their minds to be disrespectful. It's just how they are.
Be a man, shake hands.

Well said. I'm a Big Red follower going on 60 years...and one thing I've always admired is the respect the fan base and players have had for opposing teams. This seems really out of character for the Cornhuskers.

Well, initially I was upset, but after watching the games yesterday. Not so much. I guess it’s all relative. Nobody was punched, nobody was pepper sprayed, no foul language was used. It was pretty low on the non sportsmanship ladder.

What I would like to see is a different approach. Maybe have the prayer meeting after the game where both teams can attend. We used to do that. Have Ron Brown lead it. This midfield stuff has happened before, and it seems to give additional motivation to the other team. We need to be the smarter team in these situations. Try handling it differently. Your approach is not working.

My biggest complaint through all these years of losing is we just don’t play smart football. We play hard, we try, we just make too many dumb plays.

Until Nebraska stops being Nebraska when it comes to beating yourself, we will continue to be a sloppy football team. The way this team plays at times is entirely on the coaching staff, they talk about playing clean games but yet we don't. Hard fact, Iowa is in our team's head and until our teams get mentally strong, they will continue to beat us mentally and physically. Another game Nebraska throws away because we have players who just aren't mentally and physically sharp enough to impose their will. Stop talking and start doing.

Easy for Iowa to say that. They won. They wouldn't say that if we capitalized on our opportunities and won. Were they motivated so much that they whooped us with those 6 first downs, and 170ish yards? 🙄 . We were silly for the pre game stuff...but still.

5 first downs and that motivation led Higgins defense to give up 20. I could understand his statement if they stonewalled us all game and won handily.

I can’t imagine being farther away from being someone’s “bro”

Again, you should try acting and conversing like the adult that you are. You may be surprised on why people have differing opinions than you. Hope your feelings aren’t too hurt because your favorite team lost “bro”

Acting with basic sportsmanship should be a given in a program IMO. It essentially conveys discipline & professionalism, which if applied consistently, will eventually trickle down to all aspects of your game.

This is one of the dumber controversies to ever come out of a game
maybe. certainly lots of folks feel that way. and i do understand.

it's just that one little thing that bothers me about it. over the last couple decades we watched one record after another fall. we were down to 2 things: sellout record; and, being a class act. the Nebraska Way, if you will.

we now have the sellout record.
my prediction: this too shall fall. not soon. but it will. at some point.

i just hate the way we let 4 players toss away our class and good sportsmanship like it meant nothing. or like they were entitled to because of some past perceived offenses. most posters here don't agree. it's fine. and that changes nothing.

we lost something when those guys did that. it's sad for that reason.

Pray in the locker room like they did in Rudy.
it's not supposed to be a show. we don't need to be showy about a team prayer on the 50-yd line of the opponents field. we're doing this too, the opposite of the way it's supposed to be done.

when will it all end ffs.
