Big Ten Network had the 2024 replay of our game against Iowa on tonight. I haven't rewatched it since seeing it live, it's still INFURIATING.

How the f*** did we lose that game!? It's maddening!

I grew up hating Misery and Colorado, but for me the Iowa rivalry hits differently.

For gods sake they need to start showing up for this game and stomp the hell out of that bland, no championship winning, piss color wearing, bullshit team! 😤

What tit do you want to suck on? Nebraska is bland.

Nebraska football is the equivelant of stagnating monkey piss. Iowa has beaten Nebraska 9 out of the last 10. It is a goddamn embaressment and it isn't just Iowa. It doesn't matter which dipshit head coach Nebraska trots out on the field... he ends up a loser. A bunch of flash and cash and then walk away with a huge payout.

Nebraska fans continue suck on the big fat great hope from the ghosts of the 1980s and 90s. But they refuse to realize it will be another loser team in front 87,000 until it's too late. Nebraska football is less than zero.

Yeah.."eff you too".

This freaking game. I still have a picture with less than 10 mins in the third of their scoreboard. They had 20 yards of offense … 20 yards to our 234 and we were up 10-0.

Then the punt return. Our defense held them out of the end zone but when they brought it to within one score my confidence started to dwindle.

It was still uncanny to me when those bastards hit the field goal. Every Iowa fan around me was saying he would hit it. Like there was no doubt that he would hit this bomb in sub-zero temps to the win game. I still think about that moment and the expectation they had to win and the confidence that they would deliver.

Damn it all!!! Froze my ass off to watch us lose. I’m still pissed about it and still owe my friend lunch.

Then we get them at 11:30 this year. The whole thing pisses me off and this year it’s on in Lincoln. We start a new streak this year and we won’t look back.

I don't hate Iowa. I respect their consistency over many years. I like our end of the year rivalry game with them. I obviously wish we were on the W side way more often, though.

Colorado, now that's a team I hate. I'm still disturbed by their fan's hatred of us and their unwelcoming nature from many years ago.

The only annoying thing about that game was the muffed punt that was not muffed. The NU dude never touched, or at least not first. That should have been NU ball at the 10 or whatever...

Which means NU would have got the ball out to around the 30-40, punted it away and that game just gets salted away.

Iowa has been what NU has not been. Disciplined. Winning the LOS in the second half. Pelini was 3-1 against them and the one loss was when the most healthy QB NU had was a gimped up Ron Kellogg. NU's only win in the past decade was when the Palmer kid ran past them a couple of times. Rhule has his teams matching Iowa's toughness and came a couple of plays away from matching their discipline last year. Perhaps this year the whole thing will come together.

I believe our programs are going in two different directions. Iowa doesn’t have the NIl backing and will be only a matter of time before they start experiencing a fade. With their schedule I think it will start this year. Once Kirk breaks the record he’s gone and then Phil Parker will be too. At which point the NIL will really show itself and their ability to develop talent will be negatively impacted. Iowa will be a shell of its current self in 5-6 years.

To get a true sign of the programmatic dysfunction, NU has averaged 3.2 ranking spots over Iowa in the B1G over the past 10 recruiting classes and led Iowa in Rivals rank in 9 of those 10 years. NU has beaten Iowa once in those ten years. Obviously sometimes gaudy recruiting profiles are nothing more than polished turds, but it's clear that NU has always fielded a team with more athletic potential than Iowa. Indeed, stellar play by individuals accounts for NU's most recents wins (DPE in 2014, Palmer in 2022).
NU is now featuring the most talented coaching staff they've had since at least the Pelini years. They've already shown they can get younger players on the field and excel. NU has generally recruited in the top third of the league. Maybe they will finally start playing like it.

Most wins in the Big 10 is a longevity award for Ferentz. What is not talked about as much is the Hall of Fame. That standard was just lowered from 60% wins to 59.5% so Mike Leach would get in. This helps Ferentz as he now can get in with 6-6 or 7-6 record rather than 8-5 or better.

The recipe to beat Nebraska for years has been 'Let Nebraska beat itself' and no one has benefited more than Iowa. They've been right friggin there to put the game away and face plant seconds away from the finish line. I don't give Iowa all the credit for being the better team, they haven't. Iowa is the monkey we need get off our back and begin winning.

On a side note; I was stationed at a Air Base in Iowa. There were a mix of clones fans, Husker fans and Hawkeyes. I never thought much of Iowa football and didn't think of them as any kind of rival.
When Nebraska played Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship in 2012 I went to a sports bar in Iowa and they let us have it. One thing to have your team utterly wet the bed against a team they beat earlier in the season. Plus having dreams of claiming a Conference Championship for the first time since 99 dashed. But to have a bunch of shit heads, who's team was not even in the game take such pleasure in our demise began my distain.

I know the location you're referring to. What a joke. Enlisted calling officers by their first name in the hallways. Regular AF members who separated and joined it were astonished.

Last time I was there on TDY (Jan 13) a former Marine NCO who separated and joined that outfit as an AF NG NCO flat refused to call officers by their first name. She took some flack for it but God bless her jarhead heart, she gave not one little shit.

None of what I said above should be taken to imply that they didn't do their jobs well. They did, but that familiarity sometimes showed up on OCONUS deployments and brought down the wrath of the regular officers they served under/with.

Ferentz is Mike Riley...only Mike Riley is a nice guy and not a dick.

I hope Pioli brings them every bit as much success as he brought the Chiefs.

Iowa has an af base? Why

legitimately lost sleep over that one.

probably the most inexcusable loss of Rhule's career, and the timing of it was such a gut punch.

I get the hate. The losses to Iowa have been brutal, and we are long overdue to turn the momentum in this series. However, until we can do better than 1-9 against them, I'm refraining from calling it a rivalry. I know there are more variables in rivalries than W/L's, but in my book it counts for a lot. It feels hypocritical for me to call this series a rivalry at this point when I thought Bill McCartney was full of crap when he annointed the Huskers as CU's rival in the 80s despite an abysmal record against NU, or knowing I would have laughed in the face of fans of teams like Kansas and Iowa State back in the BG8 days had they called us their rival.

Make no mistake it’s a rivalry most of both fan bases dislike one another four of the losses since Riley have been by a FG and Nebraska handing the game to them.

B1G also has made it a rivalry by putting this game at the end of the year on Black Friday.

Meh, I_wa's best teams have for the most part, been barely beating DONU's absolute and historically worst teams. The only thing I hate is how bad we've played against them. Rivalry? No, just a lately struggling blue blood against a never was neighbor.

Fans also forget that we had a really good defense last year and wasted it because our 80 million head coach would rather hire his friends on offense and special teams, which were statistically some of the worst performing in college football until he was forced to pay more to hire another guy. And to top it off he alienated the good defensive coaches by bringing in his own guys, who also happened to be the worst on the staff, only to now see his best defensive coaches leave for a 2 win team because it was deemed as greener pastures. And he replaced arguably the best d-coordinator in the sport with his buddy who was coaching the weakest position group last year. I fear we are going to be wishing for more games like Iowa last year, sooner rather than later.

Another subpar effort. Need to work on your troll game - it's weak.

agree with a large part of this, and I was fuming when he allowed White to walk.

the reality is, we were going to have to replace him very soon.

i am hyper critical of Rhule, but he has historically done a good job at maintaining a good defense.

the offensive hires before this year were borderline unforgivable, this is a major opportunity for him to vindicate himself.

Didn't know Kirk was making 80 million 🤔

My anger has boiled over - obviously. Thank goodness I don't drink anymore. But I'm one of those Nebraska fans that I wrote about because I get caught up in all of the hype. Why? Because I have vivid memories of the 80s and 90s.

But now, every year is the same. All of the pre-season accolades and hype and a never ending cesspool of sunshine and smoke being blown up our dress. The media surrounding the team has never taken more than a one-sided approach to covering Nebraska. They never challenge the message. And head coach Rhule is a preacher and is always exchanging the smoke, albeit, he changes the colors from time to time.

This year I am totally and completely not engaged. It's been happening for the past few years but the same ole song and dance is worn out on me. It's frustrating.

PS IOWA SUCKS

I think the coaching quality in Memorial is as good as we’ve had this century. Holgerson and Snow are made dudes in the coaching community, and the younger guys seem high quality. There is talent in the building and Rhule has shown he can shift his approach to both the coaching staff and recruiting. I’m of course wait and see, but the program no longer seems half-assed.

Not just the coaching quality but the understanding of support staff from marketing to kitchen, physical development and coaches that this is not college football of just 10 years ago. This past week bears evidence that Nebraska is on the leading edge of educating athletes about NIL usage and NFL prep and the players were witness as well. That is what matters most today, conference championships and bowl games are secondary.
