I don’t make up the rules. But some of these schools basketball is all they have that pay the bills.
He might have been Miles' miss initially but I watched Fred and Matt A. sit in the stands and watch Sallis play at the Heartland Hoops Classic in 2019. Guess who played earlier that day? Scheierman. I was watching him in that game thinking - how can Fred not take a chance on a local kid with this potential? Fred should have looked in the mirror and said "this kid is me" and should have offered him. Yeah, you take a risk and develop a local kid with that makeup. Those early Hoiberg teams sucked hard and were full of shitty players. There was room for this guy. I already said Scheierman's path was better for him, I'm looking at it selfishly from Nebraska's perspective.
High School. All of the names mentioned in this thread should tell us that we better get them out of HS, because once they develop they're not coming here.

Those schools playing D1 basketball not only pays their bills, it also helps Power Conference programs stay in or near the black financially. They need home games against teams who won’t demand a return game, for revenue reasons.
I can barely remember him at Michigan. I just remember him being talked about almost in mythical like terms. Then of course he went on to have a good NBA career.
True, but it's also just not been a priority either. Hire the right high school coach out of Omaha to join any of those staffs, and at least half of those kids would probably have gotten here. Build recruiting connections, build a pipeline. But the question all of those NU head coaches would have asked is, "Why?"

I believe Baylor got about $500-600 k in NIL from Creighton as well. Not sure what Nebraska offered. But you make a good point. A kid like Baylor had obvious talent in high school. He played with a lot of flash, pretty much a poor man's Pete Maravich in HS. It was stupid for Miles to criticize Baylor's defense and then turn around and recruit some of the slugs that he brought in from God knows where. But it's fair to say that Baylor is a gamer. He needed to get playing time. He's a perfect example of a kid who goes to a smaller school and then turns around and kicks the higher profile kids' asses a couple years down the road.
What makes it watered down? One of the greatest sporting events are the first round in the tourney and watching upsets and some giants fall.
So we are supposed to offer a kid out of HS whose best offer was SDSU . How come Coach plantation didn’t offer out of HS if the kid was that good in HS.

University of Nebraska cares deeply about grappling. Even before entering the BIG. Mark Manning has done a tremendous job.
You're right, I didn't. It's not fun to be wrong but I am. I mixed up years in my memory and it's weird because I've had this belief for awhile. I went to the HHC several years and I mixed them up.
The question as an analogy is it that big a deal for our football team to have a 6-6 record and be invited to a bowl game. Our fans and local media sure seem to think so.

My point was Nebraska loved wrestling before joining the BIG so you are incorrect. One of NU’s most decorated athletes came from the mats in the Big XII
He's a pretty unique success story. Had three offers out of HS, played 4 years at CSU. At Mizzou one season for his "COVID year." Got a medical redshirt and now playing his 6th college season at Wisconsin. 10 years ago he'd probably be selling insurance or playing in Europe this year.
I saw him play a couple times when he was at CSU
Another perfect example of why transfers are the route to success. 23yo man vs 18yo freshmen, not much to debate there unless you're recruiting Derik Queen types.
A year ago at this time the faithful in Madison, Wi. wanted to run Greg Gard out of town. Now the same people think he's great thanks to John Tonje, the Omaha Central grad, and a couple of other players showing up to make Gard look like the smartest coach around. He will most likely be BIG Coach of the Year.
While he's done okay at Louisville, I think Chucky Ballhog moving on was also good for Wisconsin. Much better ball movement now.
I’d take Chucky’s 10 shots a game, 6+ assists per game and over 2 steals a game in a heartbeat!
That’s all fine and dandy but only 4 programs presently wrestle in the Big 12.
At Wisconsin he dribbled the ball endlessly, especially late in games, grinding their offense to a halt. I prefer to see the Badgers lose, so I was always happy to see one of Chucky's dribblefests break out.
