IMHO Great article by Barfknecht regarding Lue

Glad he wrote the article and hit hard at them. I agree it needs to be done. Lue accomplished much as a player at Nebraska and beyond, and frankly from a PR perspective, timing is hot right now.

Make it happen.

Wow, that article is pretty revealing... A friend asked me why Lue didn't mention Nebraska after the championship game when he did mention Mexico, MO, and now I think I know why.

Long past due to recognize Lue. Too bad that if it is done now, it will look like a knee jerk reaction, which is sad.

Marc Boehm is a dolt. And Barry Collier can pound sand. Whether Tim Miles can put a consistent winner on the court remains to be seen, but he definitely understands marketing/PR and the world of recruiting.

Perhaps if Lue felt the love from NU, he would have given a shout out to the University during the on-court celebration after Game 7. Instead, two shouts to "Mexico, Missouri." Don't blame him.

Still, time to get this done. Better late than never.

How does Marc Boehm still have a job? He's a Steve Pederson lackey who has overseen a tremendous amount of incompetence and mediocrity in the basketball programs over the last 13 years.

Seriously need to give Lue his due! Not sure what else a guy needs to do to get some love from his alma mater. Even just his days at NU warrant the love. He is clearly one of the heroes of NU basketball!

Recognition, yes. Retire his number, no. Lue did a nice job helping LeBron's team win a title and should be brought back (probably would have to be during football season) for his own day. But we've only retired three numbers. What about Lue's career at Nebraska makes him stand out above the rest?

Look at these and tell me why Piatkowski's number is retired then? Lue averaged just slightly more points per game and had he played all 4 years he'd probably be #2 in all time scoring, not him. Had he played all four, he'd likely be # 2 in assists, # 3 in field goals made (ahead of Pilke), and # 3 in steals (BTW, he's 17 ahead of Benny Parker who played 4 years).

Lue seems to get penalized because he left school early and because he didn't get to go one and done all 3 years in the big dance, where Pike played all 4 (and we went one and done).

We are Nebraska. We have 3 big basketball accomplishments. One Big 8 tournament championship (Pike, was a Sr.), one NIT final 4 (I believe Iba's final year), and one NIT championship that Lue was on that team. That's IT. We aren't Kentucky. We are power 5, seven time one and done school.

Oh, and nothing confirms to a recruit that you have been almost completely irrelevant and have zero basketball history, then looking up at the PBA walls and seeing a whole 3 jerseys.

Oh and don't give me this BS about it's how the player did while at Nebraska. If that were the case then why did Bob Brown's jersey become permanently retired in 2004 when he got inducted to the "Pro Football Hall of Fame?!"

If a football jersey can be permanently retired after making the Pro Hall of Fame, then we can certainly retire a jersey of a player who in 3 years is still in the top ten in school history on numerous lists, won an NBA ring, and Coached a team to an NBA title (Duh). To say otherwise is being hypocritical.

Oh, and I would certainly make a case for Strickland too.

Agree on all of this. We're penalizing Lue for leaving early, which is ridiculous for a program with so little success. If we're Kentucky, and comparing his career to other candidates year after year, that's one thing. We're not Kentucky.

The Shim Shams happening on his watch alone is enough to show him the door.

I know, it seems like the only time anything gets done with this program is after Barfknecht writes an article calling Boehm out on it (Shim-Shams, facilities, etc.). How many chances does this guy get? Let him focus on fundraising and selling tickets and hire someone else to oversee basketball who is ahead of the curve.

Retire his number, put his face on the media guide, and put up a 70-foot tall banner of him on PBA. A former player just coached the world's best player in an unlikely championship...didn't any of you guys take a marketing class???

I see you've noted that Lue's stats were better than Benny Parker's stats. I can't argue with you on that point. And you've made a good point regarding Bob Brown so I will concede that it would be hypocritical not to retire Lue's jersey if he makes the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame.

Stats? Plural? Reading comprehension issues?

I sense the sarcasm so........I pointed out steals. That's a defensive statistic that shows how many times a player takes possession of the ball away from a player on the opposing team. I compared Lue's results of that one stat in particular, to a widely loved recent defensive specialist (that means he was a really good on ball defender) in the program. I didn't lose you with the 'on ball' term did I, or should I explain that further for you????

If you didn't show your ignorance in the first comment, your 2nd about the Pro Basketball HOF sealed it. It will be awfully hard for Lue to make the Pro Basketball HOF, considering it doesn't exist. There is just the Naismith Memorial Basketball HOF. There's men and women players, coaches and even refs in that hall. I'll help you out, here's the link below.

If a Pro Basketball HOF existed, Lue would not and should not make it as a player. Lue's most famous NBA highlight is looking silly defending Allen Iverson (who made a lot of players look silly, including Michael Jordan. Heard of him?).

Now, Lue is very young, and if he stays in coaching in the NBA for a couple decades and wins a few more championships, he very well could end up in the Basketball HOF, as a COACH. Would that be good enough for you???

I want to hear Marc Boehm's version before I pass judgement. I read the article this morning & thought that's one side.

OK, I'm not going to read all of that. So we disagree. Big deal. I just thought it was funny that you used Benny Parker and a football player from the 60's as reasoning to retire Lue's jersey.
