I'm not blaming coaches on this..

If we aren’t going to blame the coaches, who should we blame? Deion blamed the players, and he is 9-3 coming off a 52-0 season-capping win. When did we last beat anybody 52-0? Perhaps we should blame the coaches for not blaming the players.

In hindsight, Deion did the right thing. He walked into a room full of losers in Boulder and told them they were a bunch of f-ing losers and they would be replaced. He got rid of the guys that were used to that losing culture.

Road to 105 hopefully cleanses the program

I refuse. Just like they have been saying players gotta make the damn plays. IGC needs to catch the punt. Benhardt needs to make the block. Neyor needs to catch the ball. Snapper needs to make a good snap Bullock needs to tackle Johnson.

You wanna add Raiola and Shavers fine but If the guys who they are dependent on do their jobs Shavers or Raiola doesn't have to make those plays.

Nah this ain't coaches ...This is on a group of upperclassmen who I appreciate and love and am super happy that they will be gone.

I'd blame them all, that way they all know they need to improve.

at least there's a bowl game, I guess

at least we don't have to sweat anyone going to the nfl early :/

I'm not saying the coaches have been great throughout this thing. In fact I'm not saying they don't deserve some criticism but LAST NIGHT wasn't on them.

I think Ruhle probably needs to change about half of his staff. I knew some of these guys wouldn't work. Satterfield was a slam dunk no go for me from day one but I gave him a chance.

But at some point the kids have gotta do what they are supposed to do. The things I mentioned are classic examples of players NOT doing the things it takes to win. Even though they were surely coached to do better.

So why are we paying Rhule $74 million, then? If he has no effect on the team after 2 years as head coach? We might as well have just hired the coach from Norfolk Catholic High School then, and spent all the money on NIL.

I hope that's alcohol talking. Otherwise you know the answer to that. Lord...

Bad habits show up at the worst of times. They’ve had snapping issues most of the year. And our return game has been non existent. Where did he, IGC, attempt to field that ball by the way? It seemed inside the 10 to me
That’s coaching and should go over that prior to the play on the field
I do blame Foley for a lot of the ST miscues this year and we lost the Illinois game bc of bad special teams also

I blame Foley for a lot of stuff this year as well. I also have to give him credit as the special teams has improved a lot from earlier in the year.

That said do you think IGC was "coached" to do what he did? Or do you think he would tell you he knew better and made a bone headed decision and should've gotten out of the way and waved everyone off??

I'm pretty sure we know the answer to that. Again the players at some point have to do what they are supposed to. Bad thing is IGC is back their BECAUSE of his decisions. He's not gonna house a 75 yard PR. I could see if that had been the frosh Barney back their making that decision. But a guy with his experience absolutely without a doubt knows better and I guarantee you he would tell you the same thing yet he didn't do it....even tho he had all year long.

That's on on coaching????

Nah...

Rhule hired his buddies you Gail to realize rhule sucks.

Blah blah blah. It’s never the coaches fault, right? Yeah, we have some crap players, but our coaches clearly lost this game.
Coaches can always take the blame and there's plenty of blame to go around. But there's no way that the coaches "clearly" lost the game. You're entitled to your opinion though and I'm sure that you're dug in on your position. That's fine. Let's be realistic, Iowa has been perceived nationally as the better team all year and we were underdogs going into the game. The statistical dominance shows that we outplayed them. Take away just one player blunder and we win the game.

They run the damn show and run the same turds out every series's

Not all of them but yes some of them. Those weren't good hires either imo. But more than one thing can be true...

Always seems like deflection from the fact Nebraska made another bad hire....who hired a clown car full of buddiea boobs and kids

They gotta coach those things out of them. That’s part of the job.

I hear ya and to an extent I can agree. A lot of these guys are been here 5 or 6 years. Coach out 4 or 5 years in a year and a half?

Maybe...but let's not act like it's easy or that these coaches haven't put them in positions to make "the" play. At some point they have to make "the" play.

I respect your opinions and takes, but somehow, teams with good coaches do not drive themselves into the ditch again and again, regardless of coaching and practicing. Something doesn’t add up and it’s not as simple as a bunch of bad apple seniors and players just not executing.

It is on the coaches to teach the players the skills needed to make the plays that are called. Or to replace said players with someone who can catch a punt, make a block, snap the ball. Or adjust your playing-calling to plays that your team is capable of making.
Why not just tell your players to take a fair catch on all KOs, since we kept giving up 7-8 yards of field position on each KO?
Or tell your punt returners to just get away from the ball in these conditions? Especially up 10-0 when the ball was not going to roll very far anyway?
For coaches to lose a game, that would usually be more of a deal where the game plan sucked and the team was unprepared. That clearly was not the case last night. Anyone who pins this loss on the coaches just has an agenda and is force fitting reality to match that. Iowa was viewed nationally as the better team all season long and we kicked their ass almost all game long.

Sure and maybe our very wealthy coaches play the other players

I'm not saying it's that simple. Our coaches have to be better also. In fact I think half the staff that was hired probably shouldn't have. Especially in the offensive side. I'm not trying to give those guys a pass.

My point was more about last night than as a whole. I don't blame last night on the coaches. I don't think they had anything in particular that caused us to lose this game.

I gave 5 examples of players errors that clearly aren't coached that way that if players simply do their job on a couple of them we win that game. This my point of saying ...u can lead a horse to water

You don't think they did? You see Fidone get pulled last week? Did you notice Gatulla get pulled after giving up an early sack? Did you see number 56 get inserted in his place? Did you see him give up a sack also? Yes all of that happened last night.

My point is you can do that and replace, replace, replace, but at some point when u are in position to make a play u have to do it. Blame whoever you want if it makes you feel better but our guys aren't making those plays.

Simply if Raiola makes the routine pass at Illinois we win.

If IGC or Bullock make those plays Iowa may not have even scored last night.

But yeah it's all on coaches.

What about the shitty play of the most important player down the stretch.

It's not easy to win a night game in Iowa City unless you are Ohio State or Oregon. Pretty damn hard if Iowa has better players. So if you are running downfield wide open, catch the damn ball. I don't put all of the blame on the players who make these mistakes. Coaches share responsibility for the product that gets put out there. But for the love of God, make a damn play. Snap it back to the holder correctly. Come through under pressure. Just once.

Nope our 2 million dollar QB was shown proper game management by a 4th string waterboy.

But it’s not just seniors that don’t make plays. The most obvious one is #15 on the offense he is turning out to be Adrian Martinez….guaranteed turnover with the game on the line. Hope Danny Kaelin can show up and push #15 to be better if he wants to keep he starting job.
Either Lateef also comes in to challenge or we bring in a grad transfer or successful portal guy. Raiola needs some pressure to produce. He also needs to lose 15 lbs and work on his speed. He is OK but not a five star talent. Needs to come back vstly improved IMO.

Now you know why Georgia didn't give a shit that he flipped....he's just not that good

What about it? Isn't he a player also? He has to learn to value the ball more. Especially in situations like that.

Benhardt has to do his job as well. Can't get beat off the edge like that. 6th year Sr? One is a frosh? You expecting HIM not to make mistakes? He's gonna make em. But I'm much more inclined to understand that coming from a Freshman than a 6th year senior.

The problem I see is that y'all want it all to be one way. It's not. I understand players are gonna make mistakes. I know all coaches aren't equal either. Could our coaches be better in some spots? Your damn right it can and SHOULD BE. I'm not giving them a pass big picture wise. What I'm saying is last night they were NOT the problem.

So lemme guess you thinking they should've pulled Dylan before the last drive that he fumbled on and inserted who? Harberg? Kaedlin? Or Grimstaad maybe?

I'm curious ..

A lot easier to do that if you are bringing the top two picks in the NFL draft with you. And his 13-11 won-loss record wouldn't look as good if he hadn't escaped to the weak Big 12.

You gonna respond to the pulling and replacing of players like Gatulla, Fidone, and Bonner or just keep asking questions?

They clearly have done that RIGHT??

Holla
Maybe so but that most important player was schooled.by the waterboy.....you could see it coming a mile away.
Rhule allowed it to happen.
