anytime soon, we are kidding ourselves. Sure, there was improvement. But we need to be honest with ourselves about the level of teams we are beating. Outside of winning a game vs the worst Oregon team they've had in 10+ years, we have done absolutely nothing. Winning games vs the bottom and middle of this conference is to be expected. We have superior resources. Superior fan base. Just an overall superior commitment to football. 9 wins means what? - a mild step in the right direction.
If we are expecting that a QB transfer from Tulane that threw as many picks as he did TD's against low level D1 competition is the answer, we are on crack. We are graduating some good players. Our offensive line is a laughing stock. Our D line is not good. Our RB's are just solid. Nothing special.
We better hope some of these redshirts can really go - and that the change in style to a more Riley-like offensive system works IMMEDIATE wonders. Because I just watched Michigan and Ohio State play, and oh boy, the talent differential is unbelievably concerning. Just glaringly obvious. We aren't even close folks. Our best case scenario next year still involves multiple embarrassing blowouts. Of that, I am unfortunately very certain. This isn't a fire Riley post. I'm not that guy. This is a post in which I feel very defeated. I feel like 9, maybe 10 wins and not competing in a conference title game is the ceiling for this talent pool of Huskers right now. Recruiting has dropped off a bit lately. The brief national hype we garnered is now all but gone. Back to the drawing board. Again. Not a good feeling.
