If they don't use TA at what he does best

Is there someone else behind him that can spell him when he is struggling? TA is a good runner, and in my opinion they aren't using his legs nearly enough. Seems the offense is going to be a pass first, even if circumstances may call for something else. TA will bring good and he will bring not so good. Is there anyone that can take snaps when TA is struggling?

Hard to know what the thought process is there, but I would think they should be getting AJ some reps. Fyfe is an above average passer as well. AJ has a higher ceiling, so it would be nice to get him some playing time.

They don't have to demote TA, but they could start putting some guys in when he is struggling for a series or two.

No thanks on Fyfe especially where we are at at this point. I'd give Bush the reps if that was going to be the case, but we shouldn't go there. Go with the game plan of getting Tommy on the run and mixing in a few passes.

I agree with this. What have we got to lose? Another game? Not that big a deal at this point. Sometimes it actually helps a qb out to have to sit for a series and observe the game from the sidelines.

I personally think the QB whisperer needs to work a little harder. I'm pretty sure I read that this staff was extremely well known for player development, especially at the QB position.

How if Fyfe an above average passer? He came in at garbage time against Southern Miss, and if it wasn't his first pass, it was in his first five passes he threw a pick right to a dude.

We hear over and over again that "Fyfe throws a nice ball" from folks on the board, but "throwing a nice ball" is only part of the passing equation. Jeff George threw a hell of a ball too.

TA made the play to win the game on the 3rd and 18 run.

The defense then gives up a drive where luckily we had a missed field goal.

Then he never got a chance to make another play. I wish the rest of the people involved in the passing game where held to at least half the standard TA is.

We've already seen this story played out. Nebraska won't be good until they have a heisman candidate, well-versed in the passing game.

Until then, expect what history has shown with Riley as a head coach.

If you notice, Tommy struggles in windy games. In my opinion, it's because he doesn't hit his checkdown - which is a short pass and not bothered much by wind. Instead he tries to lob it 40 yds. downfield, and it is very difficult to throw an accurate pass on a windy day. I've asked myself why the coaches can't get that in his head, and I think it's because Tommy panics. Some of the best QB's can hang onto a ball until the last split second and then dump it off, but that is not TA's strong suit.

Tommy's problem is between his ears right now. He's trying to do too much, and he's not using sound mechanics and moving through his progression. He's trying to make a gamebreaking play on every throw and needs to get back to hammer your feet, climb the pocket, drive through the throw.

They don't have a better passer on the roster. If they did, I think he'd play.

I think that the wind bothers him more when trying to throw short passes because he lacks the touch to complete them in those conditions. He resorts then to throwing long passes because his arm strength can negate the wind and he is more comfortable throwing the ball long.

They are pounding the sh*t out of that square peg determined to get it to fit into that round hole. Can't get it in - just hammer harder.

What? The ball that is further up in the air for a much longer time is less affected by the wind? I absolutely agree that he is more comfortable throwing the long ball, which is a problem. I haven't gone back to look at the games, but I keep hearing how wide receivers getting open is not a problem. But, TA still seems to far too often throwing it into good coverage.

I can't believe there isn't someone else on the roster that can see the field a little better and find the open guy and not just, when they get panicked, throw it up for grabs. They don't need to have a cannon arm or precision passing if they can find a guy open in the pattern.

There was a lot of this discussion during fall camp. People knew TA was going to start at the beginning of the year; the question was whether or not he was going to start in the middle of the year. I'm not suggesting there should be someone starting ahead of him, but if the coaches are going to insist on 50% passing plays, and TA is struggling, they have to put someone else in. When TA is playing well, we don't have a better QB, when he's not, we do have a better QB.
